Oh my where to start! To be honest a lot of the other girls are much more clued up on the whole thing than me, but some basics that helped me:

    - focus on the big things first. Like - church or civil, time of year, rough budget, UK or abroad, more precise location, rough guest list to help with venue and therefore budgets etc. Then I found it helpful to focus in on the things most important to us - ie fanciness or size for our budget etc.

Hope this helps for a starter!

    Jx

My best tip. Get your budget together, get a rough estimation of how much you have to spend. Then search the internet for EVERYTHING. E-bay is god. lol.

I must have shaved at least £1000 off my total so far from following tips and checking out what these girlies are up to. UKBride is a life saver!

I've shaved loads of bits and bobs here and there, but then it's a good excuse to go "I saved a grand on the marquee, therefore I can hire a jukebox..." Ah well - you only do it once!

I went to an AWFUL wedding fair today. Was truly shocking - thank god it was free! Was in a 5* hotel in Oxford, and there was about 15 stands, half must have been photographers...

congrats and welcome. i would say draw up a draft of your guest list berfore u look at venues, so u know roughly how many guests u will have so u know what sort of size venue u need. ebay is your friend it has save us so much. dont be afraid to say no to people its your day. never take your first quote shop around u would be suprised how prices vary. if u on a tight budget make as much as u can yourself (if u feel comfortable doing it) if u know any one that can make stuff that u want, flowers, dresses etc.. used them it saves so much xx

Well and truely CeCe. It was my first as well. I'd watched Gavin and Stacey the night before too and the one they go to is huge! It was a real let down. lol.
The best part was my H2B and my MOH's boyfriends face though, they only came for cake samples. They got a sausage on a stick and a tiny bit of truffle. They moaned all the way home. Serves them right lmao

Start by booking your date and venue, then work around it, decide colour scheme or theme and work from there, buy little bits and pieces from ebay or suppliers, week by week makes it much easier to get things bit by bit. Trawl through all the internet sites till you see what you want. x

Hi i am new to this website. And i have been looking though the forums and i liked the sound of this one because it has newbies also. I am wondering do you think it is a good idea to have a wedding in a hotel with everything included to make the cheaper or do everything separate

i'd say look at venues before choosing your budget, as after looking round the first 2 venues i realised my budget wasn't enough and now technically i've gone over budget but wouldnt have if i was more realisitc in the first place!

It all depends what you want, and sometimes you don't work it out until you've looked around. Looking round a hotel with a package deal you could go either way - like the fact it's all done for you, all in price etc, or you may feel that it's too generic and you want to do things your own way. Either way you can make it fit your budget.
