    Hi all,
Wedding gifts- to ask or not to ask? People keep telling me I should request monetary gifts. I feel uncomfortable with this as I believe people spend enough just by attending the wedding. Most people I speak to think it's madness to not ask for money towards a honey moon. What are your thoughts on this?

    Hi.
Can I suggest you change the category of your thread to gifts one.

Ask for anything you want to ask for. It's common these days to ask for cash gifts towards the honeymoon. If you don't feel comfortable asking for cash then ask them to buy you an experience or a meal for when you're on honeymoon. For example a couples massage, snorkeling or scuba diving experience, jet skiing, a day tour, entrance to an attraction.............

People will just give you the money for what they'd have spent on a gift off a gift list anyway.

We had both because I'm Chinese. W we had the traditional gift list with a department store but all the Chinese guests did what's traditional in our culture and gave red packets with money which we spent on our honeymoon.

If u do want to ask for money then u could use a poem, a funny one to make it light hearted :)
There are some good ones online that I've seen

I think there's threads on here already with poems asking for money. Just use the search function.

I think most ppl give money anyway. We didn't out anything in our invites as we felt poems were a bit corny so we just let ppl decide on their own what they wanted to do x

most people ask for money now - unless you want random gifts.... which you might not need/want/like then I would. It seems the norm to me now :)
