Hi all so i am going to my first wedding fair on thursday the 18th of Feb, its being held at my venue. I was just wandering if anyone had been to these before? What am i to expect? Do i need to take anythink? Lol

hi, i love wedding fairs lol, but no you dont have to take anything, but prepare questions so you can get more info about what your day will be like
usually they have the room set up how it would be on your big day, but they are always really good and usually really informative aswel
hope you enjoy it

Wedding fayres are great fun but the one thing I have experienced is that everythings sooooo very expensive...i've found them good to get ideas but then come home and shop around and I've usually found things at a fraction of the price....have a great time xx

I went to my 1st one a couple of weeks ago,and I was a bit dissapointed! I was under the impression you got some freebies and wine, and i got one sweet :( Everything is mega expensive, but just go with the view of collecting ideas. There wasnt much at the one i went to,but aparently some are really good, cant wait to go to the one at my venue in march!! :)
I've never been to one but our venue has theirs in March and like Kaz, I can't wait to go!!! xx

I have been to a few (serial wedding fair visitor I hear you all say lol!) and they have all been pretty good for collecting ideas. I took a notepad and pen with me, and even drew the odd pic or 2 when I saw a style of dress I liked. Some of the stalls give you out freebies and also info sheets so its good to take home and look through even if you arent going to get anything from them. It helped me decide what I was going to make myself and showed how much cheaper I could do things such as invites, favours, etc. The one you are going to in the venue you have chosen will be a good one for your first as not only do you get a few ideas you will aslo see how the function room will be set up like on the day. Also ask when you are there if you can have a tour of the hotel to see the bedrooms, bar, etc to get a better feel of the place. My next one I am going to is in March but I am only going to it as my venue has been redecorated recently and I will see how it looks now.x

I found the one at my venue really helpful. We had our initial meeting with the venue a couple of days before, but wasn't 100% convinced. I thought the room was way too small as it was empty when we saw it. But when we saw it with the stalls etc inside, I realised that it could fit everyone in easily and we would have loads of room. We also grabbed sunday lunch in the resturant. They had no idea in the resturant that we were close to booking- we were going to discuss it over the meal. The food was gorgeous, the service brilliant so a quick call to my parents to check which dates were OK (my aunt was planning a holiday for her wedding anniversary-didn't want to clash) then talked to the manager and booked. We got our first choice date which we were pleased about!!
At another wedding fair we fell in love with some cars. We had no idea what we wanted before then!
(This turned into a small essay- sorry guys!)

I found it helpful, but as it was local to me and the wedding isn't, I used it more to get ideas. Only problem I'm now finding is the organisers have passed my details onto other companies and now getting information from loads of different places. Going to the Olympia one this month, which I'm really looking forward to!

I went to one recently and was really dissapointed :-( There was two rooms and all they seemed to have was rings, suits, dressess and two cars out the back, not even a fashion show. This would have been fine, except i went to look at cakes, favours, stationary, flowers and hair and make-up, but nope nothing on these :-( There is another one on the 14th feb near me which is supposed to be bigger and have a fashion show of all the dressess etc, so im hoping to find what im looking for this time, fingers crossed.

I went to my first wedding fair today - I hated it! I literally stayed for about 5 minutes and then went to Pets at Home to buy my dog some presents instead.
I was really hoping to get some inspiration there but like Hails above I found it sparse and unhelpful. And I just seemed to be surrounded by serial fair-goers intent on telling everyone EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT. If they're so sure, why bother going to the fair, just get on with it!?
Not sure I'd bother with others unless anyone has any recommendations...?

Ah right ... I went to one today but it was at the venue I wanted so I think I had my rose tinted glasses on - they were perfect in every way ... It might be worth going to a few more fairs maybe ??? or just harrasing the ladies/B2B on here for ideas lol :)

Ive been to several wedding fairs as a stall holder and now my first as a bride. Most of them are pretty good, though there has been the odd waste of time. I wouldnt be pressured into buying there and then as things can in some cases be more expensive that you would expect to pay. However I think planning your wedding is not only about price but using suppliers you feel you can trust. If you go to a few fairs you will usually meet the directors or proprietors of the business and so you will get a feel for them too, if you like then you can enter into dialogue with them in the coming days/weeks and in some cases it may be worth paying a little more.

I've been to a few WF's and im pleased to say I found my photographer and florist there, it was nice meeting them face to face, I was also given a discount on both, I also managed to get some freebies, my daughter was really happy we left her next to the chocolate fountain ;D

wedding fairs are great fun, in my experience!! and as kimmy said you can often find the perfect people there - (and I have always found my wayto the free weets and cake) - Most of them are really good, and if you do meet someone who you want as your florist etc the majority of them will tell you to contact them and quote that you met them at the fair, so you can still get your discounts!!!
With fairs that are at your venue, they are normally a little quieter, not somuch hussle bussle and more just the venue shoig off what they can do, and trying to introduce you to their associate florist or photographer etc. One thing I will sayis that if you have'nt already got oneand they are trying to puh you to take theirs, step back and think about it, dont rush in, because its in thier benefit for you to use an assocaite (they often get commision off them) If they dont mind you using your own I suggest you take their info and get backto them when you have had a chance to look at others that might be able to do the same job at a cheaper rate!!
