I get married next May and ordered my dress last month. My dress will take 6 months to come in and that's before any alterations etc.

My venue was booked 12 months before the date and I started looking at dresses around then, but didn't order it until January this year. Definitely start looking now :)

Start looking now! I started in .March last year and getting married in 3 days! I didn't decide the dress I wanted until July last year after trying on over 20 dresses and going to 4 bridal stores so you need time to try lotsa different styles and find the one then get an order in.

I've got my dress, but think I would've waited a bit longer had I not been 'pressured' into looking lol and after trying about 9 dresses I fell in love with a sale one £1299 down to £600 so I think it was meant to be as I think if I'd waited I'd have ended up spending a lot more... We are planning on sending out our invites in January - march for a September 2014 wedding with a strict RSVP date so we have time to chase any ditherers lol.... And dress wise, I'd say just make a few appointments at a few different boutiques, and just see how it goes, do u have any friends that have got married that could give u some guidance over what shop to go to.... I got mine from a shop I wasn't even intending to go to til a friend said the service was excellent x

I'd say get your venue booked before you look at dresses. A dress I liked before deciding on our venue I now realise would look wrong. I'm now considering styles I'd previously dismissed.

I went bridal shopping for the first time last week and was told they need 8 months- a year to make the dress, depending on the style. The shop I was in (B__K__X) also offered me a payment plan, to pay for my dress month by month, which obviously you can't do if you leave it close to the wedding. I would find it easier personally, paying it off bit by bit rather than in one lump sum a couple of months before the wedding.

I am getting married in May 2014 and I started shopping for mine in feb this year and picked and bought 'the one' in March :-) I find its better to be organised and enjoy the wedding planning rather then leave it until later and become 'bridezilla'. Enjoy the dress shopping stage its so much fun, and my only tip is try on all different shapes and styles as you never know what one you will fall in love with. x

I started looking in July last year, ordered it end of August, as needed a good 6 months to order it in, as with xmas and new year closures etc, it arrived in Jan but had original date of March, and then had those months for alterations etc, and get married in just under 2 weeks!

I left mine quite late to look but i really didnt want to go dress shopping so left it as late as i could! x

Im getting married next june and although i may have a look this summer i am not planning on buying anything till after january. Im seriously considering going with the lady who can not be named as i dont want to pay a massive amount for a dress that, as someone else pointed out, ill be wearing for only 10 hours tops. Venue is booked, that is what we sorted first. X

You can never be too organised, the sooner you start making decisions the lest you will have to worry about nearer the day :) I would sort the venue and then the dress after. We're August 14 and are starting to look at venues now, until we have our venue and a confirmed date it's hard to get on with other stuff xx

I don't think in the wedding world the sales are in January like normal retail shops...January is when all the new designs come in wedding shops as January is the busiest month for wedding dress buying x
