I know this sounds silly but I'm really nervous about going to try on dresses. I don't know why I just am. I wondered if anyone had any tips on whats best to wear etc or how to choose the one!

Make sure you wear a strapless bra hun in white! I would say dont take too many people with you when shopping around too many suggestions will only leave you torn and confused and go with an open mind...the dress that I bought I originally turned my nose up at it whenever the lady suggested I try it on! Ooohhh...and have fun!!!!x

I was the same I wasnt even gona bother trying any because I've ordered mine online but I plucked up the courage and went along on my own, I tried on about 20 different dresses and I'm so glad I did because the style I thought I would go for didnt suit me at all and some of the others which I wouldnt of even bothered looking at looked really nice....you will know when its the one because your feel like a princess and will know straight away...the lady in the shop got me to rate every dress marks out of ten just take along maybe a close friend or your mum...someone who will be completley honest with you and enjoy every minute..one last thing there was a few dresses in the shop that I tried that would take 7-8 months to order and get in the shop so it doesnt give much time for alterations, this is another reason I'm having a made to measure dress....good luck hun xx

yeah def nice underwear. and if your gona have you hair up on the big day i would tie it up when you try dresses on just so you get an idea what the dress will look like when your all made up. and most importantly i would say be open to try anything and everything on! some things look hideous on the hanger but are really flattering on. You don't know until you try it on! xx

strapless bra, shoes/heels and one person. I took the advice of the lady in the shop too. Once she knew my shape we worked through suitable dresses. She asked me to try on a dress I didnt like the look of and would you believe it, it was the one xx

Thanks guys, best get sorted soon. I keep telling myself that I need to wait cos I need to lose more weight, but maybe I should just go and choose and aim for a size smaller.

Take some one with you that will give you and honest answer, Listen to the staff in the shop as they will be honest with you on sytles. Strapless bra and try not to wear a thong!! Dont worry about having shoes with you. this isnt important untill your fittings.. they have shoes there you can try on.
Be perpared for them to come in the dressing room with you when your in your unddes as they will help you in the dresses. Have an idea of what you like but try on as many styles that you can. Dont worry about your weight now, most dresses take about 3 months to order. they can always alter it or you can order it in a slightly smaller size.
Remember that alterations are an additional cost and if they put a hoop or under skirt on you with the dress, it means that you will need to wear one on the day.
More importantly, enjoy it. xx x

When I went to try dresses on, I wore an all in one underwear sucky in thing as I was quite body concious (after having 2 kids) of getting my clothes off in front of a stranger & it made me more streamline. Have fun & enjoy it, it's the best part of wedding planning!!

I left it until the last job on my list as I wasn't looking forward to it! I booked a couple of appointments on seperate weekends and went to both on my own and got along fine! Was then so easy and I'm really looking forward to seeing it made up!

    Good luck x

I'd certainly say to go with an open mind, and be willing to try anything on the staff in the shop suggest. They know what styles certain body shapes. And most of all enjoy the day!!!!! xx

the lady in the shop shud be experienced to giv you advice on what shape and cut wil best suit your shape. i went out looking for something plain and understated, tried one that woz really nice, i felt nice in it but didnt feel "wow" the lady asked where i was gettin married then she pulled a dress out to show me. i said it was nice but maybe a bit too much for wot i was looking for. she asked me just to rty it so i did and i almost cried. then i was lookin at sum mags wen i got home and saw sum nice dresses for a fraction of the price of this one (£700) so i went shoppin wif my sis to hav a look. they all looked like a sack of spuds so i went to another bridal shop. i spotted a dress and said ooooo i like that but wen i pulled it out it was exactly the same as the one that had made me cry. so i went back to the first shop and bought it. (pix on my profile). just go with an open mind and see what suits you. you wil know wen you hav found "the one". happy hunting and gud luck xx
