Hi! I'm just wondering if it's acceptable to give my DJ a playlist to play at our disco? The thing is, I don't want any requests to be played at our evening reception and have it ruined by people requesting chavvy dance music. I have thought about the disco and our theme is going to be mainly 70's and 80's music mixed with a little bit of modern rock, something that everyone will know and be able to dance to.
Am I being unacceptable expecting the DJ not to play requests? The way I look at it is, we are paying £300 for him for the night, so surely he should just play what we want and not what everybody else wants?

we were told by a DJ we met at a wedding fair to put a piece of paper on the firdge and everytime you hear something you like write it down and something you definatley dont want on another list. Top of my definatley nots is justin bieber. He also suggested asking with invites for requests then people kind of know it has already been done and compile a list from the responses

I'm totally with you on this but there is an expert on here called Steve C, I'll bump up his thread and you can see what he's got to say on it (he's a DJ himself) ok? xx

I dont think its unreasonable no, it is after all your wedding and not everyone elses
BUT
You do need to think of your guests, you have to think will everyone like the music you are playing??? after all you want EVERYONE to enjoy themselves and get up and dance not be bored, hate the music and sit in the corner the whole night leaving the dance floor empty, then go home early!!!
Have a word with your dj and see what he says after all its his job to know how to get people out on the floor dancing! Maybe have a few songs you def want played and a few that you def dont want played and leave the rest up to him??

Yeah kaz that would be great thanks. Charlotte, we have been doing that, we both have a playlist on our iPod that we put songs into when we hear them or when we think of them so we don't forget.
I can't wait..I'll be on that dancefloor all night long!! Lol

Yes Hails that sounds like a good plan. We are going to meet with the DJ the week before anyway to discuss things with him.
The age range of our guests varies from sort of mid twenties up to 80 so we figured a bit 70's, 80's would appeal to most of them, there is gonna be a lot of classic dance tunes, but me and the OH are massive KOL fans too and he loves rock so a bit of that is included. We maybe will have a few dance tunes in there, but only classic ones! Lol.x
