Have any of you lovely people dieted/ dieting to fit into your wedding dress?. What are you doing to lose weight? Or what worked for you to lose weight. I'm getting married in 9months (July2015) & I've currently just cut down portion size& watching the calories. Only 4days into it so yet to see but what love to know what other brides are doing or have done! :)

I'm using fitness pal just to track what I'm eating and making better choices rather than my usual, bag of chocolate of an evening with a cake chaser! Lol plus I started using apps to track my walking, I started out going for long walks then when no one was about I thought I'd have an attempt at a jog, and kept making myself go a bit further each time before walking then starting up again. Now I just go out jogging not walking, tells me the cals I've burned but instead of then eating more for the day I eat the same as I would without the exercise. I've lost 7lb in about 19 days but that's prob mostly water retention. I would say though don't crash diet as you can't keep it up til July and find yourself falling off the wagon! Allow about 20% of your daily intake to be a snack or treat. I find myself knowing if I have a day where I go out for a nice meal or something I still eat something yummy I just know the next day to exercise and not eat as much as the day before! I also have a flex wristband that tracks my daily activity and steps

For me I found that denying myself anything just made me want it all the more!

I cut back on portion sizes, I try to eat more fruit and veg (eg fruit salad for brekki, instead of toast, half a sandwich and some chopped up tomatoes / cucumber for lunch) that way, rather than changing my diet drastically and it seeming like a massive chore, it's just small changes that actually make me feel better in general.

Just doing this I lost 20lb in around 3 months. Since then, I have lapsed on the portion control, but realised pretty quickly and have been trying harder, losing a further 3lb, but that has taken another 3 months due to lapses, pastry filled picnics in the school hols and feeling a bit down (I'm not a comfort eater, but I do find when I'm feeling drained I tend to opt for a quick sarnie over a fruit salad!)

My routine recently changed when I started college in September doing evening classes twice a week. Its too early to have a meal beforehand, so I have a sandwich, then I am hungry when I get home but it's too late for a meal so I have a sandwich, maybe crisps etc. I am trying now to store leftovers from the meal the evening before to break the cycle.

I think at this point, I do need to consider upping my game, more exercise is probably a better option than less food, but I am struggling to find any motivation to get the things done that I need to do in the day, let alone find time to exercise and I have all the excuses under the world! College, 4 children including a baby that doesn't sleep atm, several hours of study a week, a partner that works til 8pm during the week putting more pressure on me to get things done that takes me half a day of procrastinating!

Truth is they are all just excuses and we could exercise together which would give me more motivation all around.

I've actually reached my initial target weight and am well within my bmi range, plus I have 19months to lose 9lb, to be the weight I feel my best at and the lack of pressure to do it now gives me plenty of room for procrastination.

Sorry for the mammoth post! In short, eating less calories + moving more = weight loss and toning, but I know all too easy how it can take a back seat on the list of priorities!

I had a sample dress that was already bigger than necessary so there was no pressure to diet to fit into a dress, but I did diet to slim down so that I would be happy with the way I looked on the day. I had previously lost weight with my G.P. and a dietician, but regained some of it. Second time round I looked on the NHS website and found a 12 week programme, where you eat 1400 calories a day and aim for 150 minutes of aerobic exercise a week, and three sessions of strength exercise a week. Strength could be as simple as carrying around heavy folders full of paperwork in work, or something like that. Ideally you need something that you can build into your routine. I got my aerobic exercise by cycling to work and back. It's quite flexible, with a weekly chart, so if you go over 1400 calories on one day (eg. if you're out for a meal), you can cut down a bit on each of the remaining days to maintain your weight loss. So if you have 1800 calories on a Monday you could have 1300 on each of the next four days. It worked well for me, I lost about a stone over about six months.

30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

Thanks all of u great advice.
Sprucey - I've used fitness pal before n I agree it's a great app for keeping track. Might have to 're-download lol
Carrie - I agree denying yourself only makes you want it more. I've found that I'm not craving as much as before (only been dieting for 4days mind you lol) so probably not over the hard part yet. Using the fact that I want to feel great in my dress as motivation.
Elinor - I've cut my calories down to 1600 a day but not using a diet plan think I may have to look into the nhs 12weeks one. Thanks
& as a bonus my husband to be is eating healthy with me, so that I'm not cooking big fat fry ups for him n tempting myself. It's alright for him though lol he's a 30" waist lol

Wow, well done bride2B28 on the weight loss, that's fab! I tried SW for a while and loved learning about new cooking styles.. there are soo many yummy meals you can make that make you feel like you aren't even on a diet at all. I still make some SW style meals now! I didn't have such great success as you so slipped out of it. I would love to get back on the SW wagon but I know in my head I'm not 100% determined to do it, so it won't work xx

    Hey,

I went on the 5:2 diet for about a month and lost almost half a stone. I have managed to maintain it so far. I have joined a gym as I want to look tones and lean for wedding and honeymoon but still loose weight. I would try the 5:2 again but going to give the gym a go for a few months and (hopefully) see the results of that first. Wedding is in just over 7 months!!
    Good luck all!
    xx

yes I'm like that fossie if I'm not fully committed i won't stick to it, but because i stay for the group chat after weight in it motivates me to stay on track because i don't want to gain going to group lol!
the recipes are so good though and even my OH has the same meals as me and he says it doesn't seem like diet food at all so i think iv defo found a diet that suits me i just have to stay on the wagon!

    xx

Yeah my OH never used to notice there was anything different about them either.. he still enjoys some of the SW meals I cook even now :) will always be the best 'healthy eating plan' for me as it is something you can maintain for a lifetime xx
