I found quite an amusing read on traditions/superstitions on the day, a few of my faves are:

-If the groom drops the wedding band during the ceremony, the marriage is doomed.
-It is considered bad luck for the bride to see a pig, hare or lizard running across the road, an open grave or to meet a nun or monk on her wedding day.
-If the bride helps to make her own wedding dress, it will bring her bad luck. If she rips her wedding dress on the day, it means that the marriage will end in death.
-The chief bridesmaid should keep a piece of cake in her pocket for the duration of the couple's honeymoon, if she hopes to marry soon
-The new bride must enter her home by the main door, and must not trip or fall, as it is a bad omen if the bride should stumble. Hence the custom of the groom carrying the bride over the threshold.
-The spouse who goes to sleep first on the wedding day will be the first to die
-To say a girl 'had a green gown' also implied that she was of loose morals, because her dress would be grass-stained due to rolling around in the fields!

I must say the green dress superstition was my fave hahaha anyone heard of any like this? I'm going to be so paranoid about ripping my dress now but quietly confident I will be the one awake longest lol!

Lets hope i don't see a pig in an open grave on the way to the church...there are sheep and alpacas at our venue though hope they aren't bad omens.
My h2b always goes to sleep first so he's obviouslly going to 'go' first.Fortunately my moh is married so will have no need to have cake in her pockets.I have slept with a piece of wedding cake under my pillow as i was told i would dream of my future husband...didn't work but was a welcome snack in the morning lol! xxx

lol well thinking about it the 1st and only time I've seen a nun was at my hen weekend, does that count. I bet all of these happen to me, one after the other! I heard about the cake under your pillow one too, I'm afraid I'll be the only one taking my cake to bed. Not having it go 2 waste and as I dont have a dress to squeeze into I'm going to fill my boots on the wedding night :D

Surely it's a good thing about the ripped dress (well not ripping your dress lol) but I'd expect my marriage to end in death. Surely that means you're going to have a long and happy marriage til you're old and eventually die..??

Loved the cake - great if the honeymoon lasts a couple of weeks or more lol.

M mum ripped her dress on her wedding day, heel got caught in it when kneeling down. Vicar blamed my dad. The have been maaried 36.5 years.

Don't beleive in superstitions, knowing my luck all will happen to me, I am pretty sure I saw a micro pig by us a few wks back but not seen it since, lol.

    Ooohhhh I love superstitions!!!

If you can get a cat to eat out of your left shoe, 1 week before your wedding, good luck will bless your married life!!!

And, it's unlucky to get married on a Saturday ??

    Monday for Health,
    Tuesday for Wealth,
    Wednesday the Best of all.
    Thursday for Losses,
    Friday for Crosses,
Saturday for No Luck At All.

Don't necessarily believe in these tho??

Might try and make the neighbours cat eat out of my shoe, that'll just be funny :-)

my oh, pointed out that should that not mean the bride should want to rip her dress as marriage should end in marriage as opposed to divorce! and I always fall asleep first , which means i will never have to be upset that my oh has died! :S

Ha-I'll have to tell my unmarried bridesmaid the cake one (possibly both if I end up with my third bridesmaid) not sure they'll be happy to have cake in their pocket for two weeks though... especially as one of them might end up going on holiday at the same time
