Can anyone help please? My fiancé and I are due to get married in Italy next year. We are just sorting the legalities out and have hit a stumbling block. He was married previously in Florida and now they want a copy of the wedding certificate and decree absolute for our wedding. We have the decree absolute but not the marriage certificate. His ex wife may have it we think but they haven't spoken in years and even if we asked she wouldn't let us have a copy.
We have tried everything Google throws up, but on the searches there is nothing coming up. Has anyone else ever had this problem or know how we can get a copy of the certificate?
Thanks in advance x x

I think should be able to obtain one from your local council offices? Or wherever their local council was at that time. Im pretty sure actually that you can contact them online and ask them to get you a copy before you collect it.

I would speak to your local registry office. I'm sure they would be able to let you know what to do. It's very likely that it's not the first time something like this has happened!

We had similar situation, but you can order copies from the registry offices. We had to get his decree absolute, and I had to provide the church with a baptism certificate as it was a Greek church, and I'm Church of England. It cost £11 from the London metropolitan archives. Ask your local registry office and they'll point you in the right direction.
