i live in York and im getting Married in middlesbrough, cause my H2B has a bigger family than me so it just works out better, ive found my reception venue but im really struggling to find somewhere for us to actually get married, middlesbrough reg office isnt the best but i would have gladly got married there as im on a small budget but on a sat there last slot is 11.30 which is no good to me, we only want to put one lot of food on so would prefer a 2.30 onwards wedding, but other than a hotel which really want you to have the full day there im really struggling.. :(

Why not as the register office for dates when they've got their latest appointments free and then see if your venue is free on those dates? x

    Good idea Clare
I may be asking a silly question here but is there a reason you dont want a church?

You should still be able to have a ceremony in a hotel and then move onto a diff venue if thats what you want to do.
Maybe enquire wih your venue if they are planning on obtaining a license to hold civil ceremonies any time soon?
    Ummmmm Museum, town hall.......

The local council should have a list of licensed wedding venues, you can sift through that until you find one you like. You may be surprised what you can choose from! Our local 'nightclub' has a wedding license.

ive searched the internet high and low and only about six hotels come up with a civil wedding license.. i would have it in a church its just difficult to attend and get on there register when we live in York, the venue is booked for the reception already because the dates are allready dissappearing fast so needed to get that booked in quick, just never thought finding somewhere cheap to actually get married was going to be quite this hard...lol x

yeah i think so hun, but we have to attend ... it just proves difficult with us not actuallly living there, was hoping there might be an easier option somewhere but not sure there is going be, so might have to bite the bullet and somehow start attending the church ...lol ..x

What about a register office in the next town? Might they have your date?

Try a Unitarian church if there is one, they're usually less strict on you having to attend. We have to go three times in the next 12 months, and they've already booked us in despite never having attended.

If it's proving a bit difficult sorting all this out remotely why not just have it in york near where you live? I relaise you say h2b's family are bigger but wherever youhave it at least one side of the family will have to travel/ or have is somewhere inbwtween like Pickering that way both families wll have to travel and won't be as far away for you to plan remotely x

I had a bit of a similar situation. The venue (where we are having the ceremony and reception) were free on the day we first wanted, but the latest slot was 1pm which was too early for us as we are only doing the one reception. After much tooing and froing between venue and registrar we found a date and time to suit us. Hope you get to sort it all out.
