Oh my goodness! I just need a car to drive me to the ceromony then onto the reception - total driving time about 40 mins! I don't want to actually own the car for that time!! Any ideas for cheaper transport? I have considered a black cab and also contacting funeral directors cos they have large nice cars (not the hurse!) and if there's no funeral that day maybe they'd hire out the cars?? Is that weird or ok?? Any other thoughts?

135 quid sounds pretty good - well done! I haven't found anything like that as yet - more like 400 quid, which I just can't justify. I will keep looking - the right option will come along eventually!

try taxi firms, most will take the signs down if u task. or i know this sounds daft but try ringing funeral directors, they hav nice cars and some will let you hav the use of one for the day for a rate that u wont need to sell a limb to pay for it. xx

i was quite surprised how damned expensive it is, i wanted a classic 1960's vw camper van, but sadly they r all fully booked :( so ive been looking round and i either dont like the look of the car, or h2b doesnt like the car, he still thinks we have loads of time, even tho as im getting quotes they r saying that they r getting booked up, 1 company i looked at only had 1 car available!
im currently looking at normal hire cars, but looking 4 companies that offer executive cars, prices r averaging around £100 per day, thats based on a c class merc, so hopefully not much more 4 the bentley continental gt, yeah right, lol! i can always dream, but the company had nice cars, does depend where ur from! if that dont work out then i will have 2 resort 2 send h2b in his dads range rover, the car ribbons dont cost much and i may ask h2b ex uncle (if that makes sense) 2 borrow his black range rover (better model) or my utter last resort is askin fil2b if he can sort me out with a fire engine, lol! xxx

What about "normal" car hire companies, could you look and see if they have anything nice that you might like and then just hire it for the day and have somebody drive you?

I'm going to ask my Dad to drive me in his shop van, lol, not the poshest transport but it has been good enough for the rest of my life and it will be good enough then. Plus, my dress won't get squashed!

Just come across this thread and wanting to know when you booked your cars? We are going to look properly in the Summer (1 year before) but I've had a couple of companies emailing me saying that our date has now gone!?!?!

Now I don't know what to do?!?! Plus the fact that we are on a tight budget and I don't want to be paying out loads for a car for an hour! I have considered asking my uncle who has got a Jag but my dad says there's not much room in the back and we'll be all squashed in...

    HELP!!!!

We're having the ceremony and reception at the same venue, and I can't justify the expense to myself ... so MOH's husband is driving us in his Golf - I've bought some bows and ribbon for it ... my mum wants me to get a "nice" car, but I've put my foot down and told her no.

i am happy we have spent the money on them as they are beautiful cars and we will get some lovely photographs with them. I figured if my budget allows it then why not but I know what you mean. The cost for hiring them when I first set my budget definitely wasn't as high as it actually cost me lol! x

Yeah it's an issue for us really - we hadn't reallly thought about cars when setting the budget as we were going to stay in the hotel the night before (getting married and having our reception in the same place) but then this would have cost £500+ for both of us and our bridal party to stay as we didn't want to stay alone lol! So thought about cars...Just had no idea of costs or what style I like etc...oooh need to get looking.

So how far in advance did you all book your cars then?

Beauford and 7 seater Bramwith for total of £440 (cheaper cos it's on a Friday).

Not much cheaper cos it's one way only. They say that it costs them time to get the cars looking beautiful and they've got to come back anyway!! Fuel prices as they are, blah, blah, blah.

All i can say is shop around. Another company hiring out exactly the same types of cars wanted £480 and others even more.

And we chose not to go with a company that H2B knew and would give us an excellent discount because he didn't like the lad and he'd rather not have him on the day. Also a car we loved was already hired out for a wedding a few hours only and I didn't like the idea that this might delay them in some way and not be ready for ours - plus they were slow getting back to us. Whereas the one who we went with seemed to remember us from our messages and knew the date, remembered my fiance's name.

My best mate had her dad drive her in his muddly landrover with a ribbon over it which made me laugh!! Cost them nothing!

It's funny reading this and seeing it from the other side of the picture, most wedding cars go out once a week on a Saturday (some are only on offer 6 months of the year) and have to make a weeks worth of wage on that day unless they get week day work, I know this is not great for pricing but without the kind of prices they charge they would not make a profit and then not be in business for you to hire I guess :( there is always a cheaper option such as a hire car or posh taxi but I guess its down to what car and service you want for your big day.
We always look at other wedding services such as cakes, dress's etc and think why do they get paid so much so I guess it's the same there as well.
    Limo Dave.
