My wedding is a fair distance from my home and hiring a wedding car would be a ridiculously expensive avenue especially as I'm not into the "classic" type cars. Ideally I'd like a Lamborghini but unless I win the lottery it's not happening!!

I am so not bothered about a car. I'd jump in a cab :-)
I know - I will not set a foot into these typical wedding cars nor a limo.

I have asked a friend who has a car from the late 40s/early 50s to drive but not sure yet.
In my town is a random guy who done up his cars like from the movie Cars. He actually owns a real life Lightning McQueen, Tow Mater and Luigi. And I'd love to book Tow Mater but h2b is really putting his foot down and not having it.

There was a couple on Don't tell the bride recently where she arrived in an ice cream van - I'd totally do that too. Again h2b not that keem but warming more to this idea than Tow Mater :-)

Hahaha that is so cool i would love Lightening McQueen and my nephews would too. I don't have to travel anywhere as it's all in one place but if i had to then i would ring my local cab firm and ask for a nice family car as they are quite new and pretty nice. Have you thought about asking what sort of cars your local cab firm has? And tell h2b he will get what he is given hahaha

But honestly I am really not bothered hence the suggestion of the cab. We do have to travel about 40-50 mins but then it's all in one place. I am so not a car person so I don't care if there's a car in pics or not. :-)
    Unless it's a Cars car :D

I think this whole wedding business is driving us all a bit insane. There's a whole industry telling us we need this and that and spend shedloads of money just because a so called tradition expects this.
You have a car that you love, that looks cool AND that doesn't cost a small fortune - use it. Who cares? I think it's a great idea with a money saving bonus.

what about taking your own car so far then hiring a car closer to your venue less mileage less expense?

The mileage isn't the main problem it's the horrific deposits :(
I don't want any other type of car so I'm saying that if I can't have that one I'd rather just save the money and use my own
but have been told using my own car is weird lol.

I think littlemissbossy has hit it on the head with getting swept away in tradition. I'll just tell the bestman to go away!!
    Thank for your answers xx

I don't see any problem in using your own car, espescially as you say you aren't bothered about having a car in the pics

We aren't having cars at all as we're both staying at the venue the night before (just in separate rooms lol)

I wasn't going to hire a car either hun just seemed a bit ridiculous when the church is 10 mins away if that but after my mum offered to pay for all of my dress, my nan is paying for food and drink at reception, MIL paying for suits and my aunt is chipping in I thought I'd have a browse and found a company an hour and half away from me who do gorgeous Rolls Royce's willing to pick my bridesmaids up, drop them off, come back pick me and my nan up (she's giving me away) drop us off wait around while the ceremony is happening then let us take pics with the car and make a 3 tier wedding cake however we want for £360 so I thought what the hell and went for it lol xx

Just seen pic of car on your profile its gorgeous go for it hun, if you can turn up in that without paying a major expense I definitely would! Wish I could actually it fits my colour scheme :( xx

We had our wedding about 5 minutes from the hotel - but we still had a wedding car. I absolutely detest the old style cars - so had my dream car - a VW campervan!!!!

It didn't cost much, we got to have a drive round in it after the ceremony and it was great for photo opportunities.

If you have a decent car there's nothing wrong in using your own on the wedding day - as long as you think of the practicalities like who will be driving it (not practical for you in a dress and whoever does needs to be on the insurance etc).

Yeah I think you can hire them out. You never know you might just be lucky enough to get on free, how can they make a bride pay on her wedding day?! Hope they don't pass on condolences (think thats the right word) thinking you been jilted and have to catch the bus home, great start to the wedding day! x

I wasn't going to have a car but the wedding has got bigger than we intended and then the dress I have picked will need a big car. I'm getting a lift from home to the hotel where I will get ready (45 mins journey) and the car will take me to the reg office and us both back to the hotel ( cheaper than getting married at the hotel or would get married there). I picked a big stretch limo so the nieces and nephews can ride with us! I think it's a fun idea. Do what you want Hun, it's your day and your money :) x

I planned to hire a White Range Rover at a cost of £250 to go 5 minutes along the road. So I've decided to use my own car which is Black but will look nice with ivory ribbon and flowers in the back window and I can spend the £250 on something else.

Love your car, it's a great colour. Go for it, its unique and a bit different.

Our venue was 1.5 miles from my mum's house and I couldn't justify the expense of hiring a car that no-one would see. Although my mum duid argue with me about it! I was happy to get a cab, but everyone toldme that I couldn't arrive at my wedding in a cab - but couldn't give me a good reason! In the end my MOH's husband drove us in his Golf which i'd got some ribbon for.

My dad is unable to drive because of his eyes and I don't fancy relying on anyone else to get me there :s my family and friends are always late, so late I've put my invites an hour earlier.... I think I will just ignore the best man and take my car. I can hide behind the boot and fling the dress on! I couldnt understand why he thought it's so bad to drive myself there but turns out my oh and the best man have been plotting so they can take my car instead of his punto :/ *rolls eyes*

It doesn't matter which car you roll up in, as long as it is clean - especially on the inside!!! You don't want your beautiful expensive dress to be covered in muck when you climb out. I know someone who hired a very expensive car, and ended up having to sit on a bath towel because it was not up to scratch on the inside. It was a nice car though, and they are quite into cars so I understand why they wanted it. If you're not into cars, then it's not worth shelling out extra cash just because you think other people expect it.

I love cars but I can't bring myself to fork out that kind of deposit for the one I wanted, and unfortunately I don't trust that the company would be honest and give it back. I believe they would make it difficult to get it back. My car is clean inside so I'm sure it will be fine. The thought of my sisters car with half eaten lollies and crumbs makes me cringe!

I've made a plan now anyhow, I will drive me and my dad and my brother to the venue, best man will drive oh, then at the end me and oh will go on to our next destination in my car and my dad and brother can go home with my sister. *phew*
