I don't post in here that often, as you know, so this is a goodie!....
With five-six weeks left to go, I thought it best to call round all our suppliers to make sure everything was all in order prior to the day. All was well...Then I got to the car hire company! I did my usual speech; "when you you want final payment, is everything in order, etc" Then the oman passed me over to her i assume, husband; "didn't my daughter call you?" he said "err...no!" I said. "Should she have?" "We've sold the silver Cloud 111"! so I said "What???" Oh I'm sorry, but we had no choice. You have to understand" he went on to say. So I told him; "The only thing I understand is, that you have sold the car without telling me and now were left in the lurch with no wedding car - it's five weeks to our wedding! All it took was a telephone call. Communication - open mouth, words come out!" After apologising, he offered me a rolls-royce tourer, which is covered in dust inside, so I said no to that. "ill try to get hold of a silver cloud 11 within two days" "OK" I said and put the phone down.
Now the good news: I remembered a car hire company in Semley, just down the road, So I called them up told him the situation, and what cars did he have? "for the price you want, we charge £360" (we were paying £310) so i asked him what he could do for around the £300 mark, so he went and checked, called me back, and said we can have the Rolls-Royve Silver spur for £00 instead of the normal £365 So result. we got a nicer car from a reputable company (who, with hindsight, should have gone to in the first place) at a cheaper price.
I got another car with in an hour. they said two days.
BUT The original company we were with our car is the second car they have sold. I seriously think they are going out of business
Geeez! What an afternoon!!!

oooo see these things make me panic nothing is ever guaranteed!! well done for dealing with it so calmly think i would have lost it! think i would have to do my best to make sure people in the area knew how bad the service of that company is! no wonder they are going out of business :/
but also congratulations on getting another one so quick and saving yourself some cash! alls well that ends well but think i would have wobbled there!
One BIG day will lead to lots of little happy days !!
CommentAuthorKatya
have you got the deposit & or other monies spent on the original car back yet? I would insist on compensation on top of a full refund as you have been put under "Un-due stress"!
I am livid for you!
Find out who you are & do it on purpose!
CommentAuthorangel830609

Oh, I'm getting the deposit cheque back, don't worry. He's broken the terms of the contract. He's (supposed) to be sending it first class today. This company actually moved down here (dorset) from Leicester way, and that leads me to think they had a bad reputation up there, so they got out of the area. I could be totally wrong about them going out of business, but the signs are there; two cars sold in as many years,(silver cloud 11 and 111) and not being replaced, Moving to a different area to "try and build up a reputation"...
Writing's on the wall I think.
There's no point in getting stressed. I know most people in the area wedding suppliers and otherwise, so I felt pretty sure that things could be sorted. I left contingency plans in place, and booked two cars instead of one with this new company, just in case something else goes wrong.
At worst, we lose £100. The insurance will cover it.
Stricnene anyone? :o)))
And yes, this is the first serious problem that I've encountered.
I think I would have choked him down the phone if it were me LOL. But dude you handled it very well, is there anything you cant do....(Superman theme playing in the background lol ) xx

Just had this from the original company we used:
"Hi Clive,
I am so sorry I did not tell you about the car and you found out today. I only found out myself last week about our Silver Cloud no longer being available, but did not inform you yet as I was quite confident I could find you another vehicle the same. I had someone looking into another car for you but they had not yet got back to me, probably due to the bank holiday weekend.
I'm glad you have now found an alternative vehicle, but sorry we could not help. I will send your deposit first thing tomorrow, Phil will be dropping the cheque round to me later as I do not hold a cheque book here.
I will send the cheque to the address you have given me.
All the best and I hope you have a lovely wedding.
Kind Regards Vicky"
And my reply:
"Hi, Vicky.
Thanks for the apology, but, quite frankly, you really should have informed me the minute this had happened. Phil said He would see what He could do in two days. I did exactly the same thing and only took an hour.
If you could send the cheque as agreed, first class post tomorrow morning please.
Thanks,
Clive"

Never!! To hear ou say that... Well, you've shocked me! LOL
She doesn't thinks shes let me down. HA! "Clive,
Sorry you feel that way, I didn't want to get a car from just anyone, I had someone I knew and trusted the car would be nice. I contacted her yesterday and they did have a car for you, so we feel we have not let you down and did manage to find an alternative vehicle as I thought we could.
Your cheque is in the post.
Kind Regards Vicky"

to be frank it makes no difference that they have found a nice car ... cough cough .... it isn't the one you booked ...and therefore they defaulted under the supply of goods act .. ( sits here with a smug look)
They "found a nice car"... But failed to tell me.She was frantically running around for the best part of a week. All it took was a couple of phone calls, and I had the job done inside an hour. So she was either looking in the wrong places or generally nor doing her job properly - I reckon it's both!
All of this is tell-tale signs that the writing's on the wall anyway...
CommentAuthorlala "mod" bunni
ohhhhh yeah ...
and even if she had called you as soon as she "knew" and given you the option of them looking for you .. it would have been better than keeping you in the dark ..
Clive can you send me the name of the company .. my god daughter is getting married at the end of the year so dont want her using them .
Bad business practice, you should have been informed the second they had sold the car, and my question to her would have been, had I not called to confirm when would I have been told, when the wrong car turned up on the day???xx

Course I will hun!
The only reason why they tried to bide their time was to pocket the money and run, I'm sure of that.
Al lot of it was naivity pn our part, when we booked two years ago, alarm bells should have rung when we saw all these classic cars - holed up in a unit in the middle of a farmyard! So, we hade to wade through cow s^¨t and god knows what else to see these things! they told us it was temporary until they found somewhere more suitable! yeaaahhh! lol
Thats the other issue. How long was she going to leave it until she told us? I personally don't think there was any plan to call me at all, and they hoped I would say nothing.
Ill put a link up on my wall in a sec giving details of the company and NOT to use them!

CommentAuthorMrsMoran
Oh god, that's all you needed with 5 weeks to go to your wedding! They're trying to cover their backsides now they've been caught, they obviously had no intention of telling you they'd sold the car and just turn up with a different car on the day and hope that you agree to that one instead because there's no other option at that point, it's terrible. Good job you phoned to check everything was still okay, just goes to show you should always check just before the day that everything's going to plan. Glad you managed to find a different company! xxx

Fortunatley, I have managed to build up a relationship with most suppliers in the area over the past two-and-a-half years, and as such, managed to get our new supplier onside. The only mistake I made was not trusting my own gut instinct at the time.
