    Hi all,

I have found a design for a wedding cake that I love! but they have quoted me £460 I just wondered what everyone has paid/budgeted for there cake? Is that a normal price (I originally only budgeted £200).

I've tried to post photo of cake design I like on my wall but it wont work :(

I'm thinking about taking my design to other cake places and see if they could do a simular design?

    Hayley xx

That isn't specifically true, the cake I want would have cost around that from some companies, but if you can search for someone who does it from home it brings the cost down quite a bit. Someone on here is bound to know of someone in your area that they could recommend. If you had more time I would have suggested you take a cake decorating class to get some tips to do it yourself. I was going to do it, but the college in my area is crap and never got back to me about the course. xx

Hi hun, I agree with GregorysGirl. Thats what we are doing. For our daughters Christening I went into a cake shop and the design I liked was meant to cost £175. My mom's neighbours friend from work does cakes at home & it cost us £49 for the exact design and a size bigger!!!! Im using her again for a wedding cake. Plus the cake is actually delicious proper melt in the mouth!!! xxx

Where abouts are you? I live in Northern Ireland and am an eager baker, I baked and decorated my daughters christening cake. It was a two tier vanilla sponge.

i'm in surrey and a friend is paying for our cake but they live in manchester so we have ordered ours there and it was £360 for 3 tiers and a fake 4th bottom to let the cake flow !! but i reckon if we had got the cake down here it would of been about £500!!!

Cakes are ridiculously expensive!! try finding some freelance cake decorators. try your local net mums???

You can get cheaper depending on where you go - If you like the looks of the M&S cakes they are around £200 or the plain one depending upon number of tiers you can do for £150 and decorat it yourself with fresh flowers for less than £200!!!!

Patisserie Valerie do theirs for around £200 for a fruit filled cake too so just shop around n you can get quoted much cheaper xxx

that is expensive but sounds about right because you put the word 'wedding' in it! fortunately my mum used to do this for a living so will be doing ours, but do agree with other comments on buying plain cakes and decorating them with either fresh flowers or getting someone to make flowers for them. ask around as there may be a link to someone you didnt think of
