Hi Ladies, Ive been to a fabulous choclatiers in Plymouth today and seen the cake I want, its made all of white chocolate with big white choc snowflakes strewn all over it, and we can have different flavours for each of the 3 tiers. I just mainly want to know if its a good/average price or should I shop around more. The tiers are ... 5in 9in and 13in , serves 110 and is £352. If you dont mind me asking what prices are you paying for cake and how many tiers/servings? xx

that sounds a good price, and by the way that cake sounds immense! we haven't got our cake yet, but the companies we have looked at seem to range between £200-£600, but that is for 160 ppl x

I'm a caker, and the rule of thumb is a 3 tier cake is £300, plus any decorations added to that figure. Of course, it depends on where you are it will vary slightly, but that's what I'll be sticking to when I finally get my business up and running.

aww no vickyb that's terrible. my m-i-l to be wants to make my cake, but I know exactly what I want and I am planning on making it myself. She tried the whole " but it's tradition" thing, bu she only does fruit cakes. I said she can make 1 tier for me (I'm extravagant and want 5 just to be better than everyone else, each a different flavour!!) as I don't do fruit cakes!

If you were closer to me I'd make you a sponge

I think we will end up buying a sponge cake from either M&S or Tesco and adding some ribbon and a topper :0)

I'm lucky. A family friend makes a small fortune making beautiful cakes. She makes the bride and groom toppers look like the bride and broom with their outfits, hair dos etc. You can imagine how expensive she is! And in her words she wants to make us something very special and unique (free) for our day
