We always planned to order a cake from a high street shop which sells wedding cakes, however my mum was having a little bit of a panic at the weekend, about actually assembling the cake, as each tier will come in a separate box. The last she wants is for us to put it together and it not look right.

I understand how to put the cake together roughly with the dowels etc, however has anybody done this? and it is pretty easy or does it really need a bit of skill?

How many tiers are you having? It is simple enough, you put the dowels in so they are level with the top of the cake, and just place the next one on top, the dowels are merely there to support the weight of the cake.

If you are unsure you can always ask the high street shop you order them from just to double check. xx

Sorry its a four tier and I've watched there how to stack the cake video, and they provide all the dowels etc. I didn't think it looked very hard, but my mum is in panic mode! x

haha its ok, just make sure the heaviest consistency one is the biggest one - aka if your having fruit, make sure its the biggest tier as its the heaviest and can support the weight of everything else! and obviously lightest smallest etc.
Yeh the videos are simple enough, as long as the dowels are flush with the top of the cake etc, they dont need to be inserted into the bottom of the next cake or anything like that, they are merely there to support and stabilise the weight of the cakes!

Get your mom to watch the videos too, and also, if shes that worried get her to go into the shop and ask, and then once its been explained to her she may calm down! i know how panicky people can get, but once its been 'officially' explained by a 'professional' its a reassurance!! x

haha no probs! got that tip from my OH, he gets worked up and panicky over small things like how long to cook this meat or can we still eat that pie bla bla, ill say its fine its this many minutes or the best before is this, but unless he reads the actual instructions or something he wont believe me, even though ive told him exactly what it says!! i know meat/cooking is diff to cakes..but the reasoning behind it is the same!!

    Good luck hun! xx

I put dowels in my own cakes and assembled them at the venue and it was really easy.I had never done it before so watched a couple of tutorials online first but i had no trouble at all.I assembled it the night before so it stood there for over 24hrs perfectly.Tell your Mum she has nothing to worry about, she will find it a doddle. xxx
