I've spoken to a few people I know and I think about 3 people have heard of this to about the other 12!

We've got our photography sorted using wowcher for £299, (it was something we couldn't really pass up being on a tight budget) which is 350 photos plus the copyright disc of all photos.

MIL was taking us to have a look for invites so we were filling her in on what we'd sorted, and when we told her this she asked if that included all three albums. We said no, but me and H2B were a bit confused at the 'three'.

While in the shop, she drops in that she and my mam should get photo albums of the wedding as gifts, (I'm a little less skeptical seeing as 3 people knew of it) but in the supply shop she was sort of picking out covers and sort of hinting. It made me panic a little bit as we're paying for the majority of the wedding ourselves.

I've looked online and seen the mother of the bride gets an album but if anything to make it fair I'd go with neither get one unless they want to pay for it themselves! We're cutting costs at every possible point and this isn't something we'd accounted for :(

There are websites that you can make your own smaller version for £15/20 each? That way it may not be an official album but they would get some kind of album?

This is what we are doing for our parents.

I never really thought of doing a smaller one. I just panicked at the extra cost! :P

(It also didn't help that she had already rattled my fiancé a great deal during the visit to the supply shop but that really deserves to be in another thread and at this moment I'm in no mood to sum it up! ha ha sleepy)

Sometimes with photography packages they include an album for you (no1) then two parent albums(no 2and3) fr ur parents but its not an obligation to provide one...we're not because its not included in our price and we're not being pushed into it...we get copyright access to all our photos too so I'm thinking if they want one they can buy their own album of choice then borrow the disc and choose and pay themselves for which prints they'd like.... Definitely don't feel under obligation tho as its not mandatory or traditional!x

I'm not getting an album at all - I think it's a lot of money for something that'll get looked at once in a blue moon. But there are a couple of good websites where you can make your own albums for about £30, as Mrs T to be says. I thought I'd do one up, and then if anyone wants one, we can order more. But I don't think you have to get them for parents, unless you get them in a good package.

We aren't getting an album either Angela. We are getting the full disc of images and the copyright to go with them so we are making our own album but have seen some for £100 which look VERY nice and is still cheaper than what our photographer would add onto the price if he was to do an album with less pics in!

I can't believe the price of albums. We haven't chosen our photographer yet, but all thrones we're looking at are charging at least £200 for a single album. That's a lot of money or something that no-one will really look at. I'm moretpted with the idea of the electric photo frames that keep scrolling through the pics, although H2B doesn't like that idea.

I don't think it's necessary at all. I have heard of it and ill be doing it for our parents but only because its included in the price for our photographer. I certainly wouldn't be going and spending extra money on it. Especially if things are already tight.

And as the others have said, you can make a small album on some websites for very little, but no need for it. Don't feel pressured into it.

I'm thinking that we will just get a digital package with online viewing or something along those lines, so anyone who wants a picture can purchase it themselves. With such good quality and affordable photobooks available nowadays it seems the best option x

I don't think I could get away with an online gallery as MIL is a technophobe, she's only just got to grasp with sending emails and how to Google things after 2 years of showing her!

I think making our own is going to be the best bet if at all, but I think I'll drop in conversation that we don't intend on getting any albums (for same reason we'll probably not look at very often - plus we have a beagle who would think it will look just delicious) and just see where she goes from there. If she gets upset then I'll just have to tell her if we have the money spare we will but at the moment it's not something we can afford.

It's a difficult situation because as soon as we say that we can't afford, that'll translate as we're struggling for money (which we aren't, we're just sticking to a budget which 3 photo albums wasn't included in!) and she'll panic and start trying to sort out his finances for him and sticking her beak in!

Shes a lovely lady - just difficult! Got to word everything carefully otherwise his dad will problies get the brunt of it when we're not there.

We weren't going to get any albums at all let alone parent ones. We where going to make them but got a good deal as we are having a mid week wedding, getting all day coverage, disc, canvas and album for less than £500.
The old tradition is to get parents albums but that was before they started doing discs

Some photographers do 'Parent Albums' which is basically a minature version of the normal album... We're not having a proper album, just the copyright disc and small paperback 20page album.. I will make the proper album myself when we get our disc.. xxx

What about framing one picture for each of them and copying all the photos onto a disc for each of them, then it's up to them what they do with the pics.
