Any of you lapsed Catholics out there who wanna get married in a Catholic church? I was brought up Catholic but have been very slack about going to church for several years :0. Is anyone getting married in one and what was the procedure- how easy is it?? Heard you have to get consent from your current priest to allow you to mary in another parish...my local churcg is a hut and would love the traditional massive church...also do you need lessons before hand etc. eek...i don't want to lie to the priest!!xx

I go to a church which is just out of my parash, but its the same distance away than the other which is mine.... i go the other as the priest is nicer, when i asked him about getting married he said i need permission from my parash priest (which i also needed to get the previous yr for my sons baptism) I also needed permission from some higher person to marry a none baptised person. And yes you do go to marragie classes. i dont know what the classes are like, i havent been nor need to now!.... also if you dont attend the other church they could say they wont do it coz ya not in that parish, mine would do it asi attend mass there, only started last yr tho.

Ours wont marry us as its a second marriage for us both, they dont recognise the first marriages as they werent in a catholic church but that doesnt make any difference, h2b attends mass regularly as do our children who are in catholic schools and all baptised but they still wont :((

No we decided if our parish priest wouldnt marry us despite knowing us and knowing we are practicing catholics then hes unlikely to give permission for us to go to another church.
Its too late now anyway as our weddings in 8 weeks.... we're having a civil ceremony and Im happy with that. I hope you get your permission, I know others who have been fine our canon is old school!!!

I think it's down to the individual priest to quite a large degree - my friend is also a (very!) lapsed catholic and really wanted to get married in the church near her home, but there was a new priest and he wouldn't. But just down the road another would...they had to go to a weekend course of being married in the catholic church and I think also to attend some Sundays there

I think its disgusting how the church stops people from getting married. They should be embracing the fact that people want to get in touch with God. Who are they to deprive people of this? Were having a blessing as our local church has big steps leading up to it with no disabled access so I may not have been able to get up them. We wrote to the higher people within the church to see if we could get married in the church in the next village as it is all on one level and they said no it had to be the local parish or nothing. I'm pretty sure God wouldn't mind where we got married so how dare the church stop us. Rant Rant Rant Rant.
