I was at a wedding reception last night. Firstly they had welcome drinks out for the evening guests. I have never seen this before, but other people i was with seemed to think its the norm?
then they had their first dance, and then a full pipe band came out onto the dancefloor and did a set of tunes. It was ACE! Then the pipe band went away and the disco carried on.

she also had bacon rolls AND stovies for the buffet at night, which was great and really hit the spot.

i was planning having a pipe band whilst the photos were being taken, but i might just change that now and have them come on after the first dance!

We were going to have bacon rolls but then we would have to cater for 100% of people rather than the 80% as requested so just the normal buffet for us.
And yes to echo Crocadillo......Whats a Stovie??

We're considering bacon rolls with one of the venues; but, it's £3.50 per roll and I think you'd have to cater for everyone; otherwise, what do you say, 'sorry, we've run out, tough luck'?.. Could be tricky I think.

We did also consider welcome drinks for the evening guests; but, I think it would be difficult to give drinks to just the evening guests, so again, you'd probably have to give everyone a welcome drink. However, I do like the idea of everyone having a glass of sparkling wine to kick off the evening. We're putting a sizeable sum behind the bar though, so most people should be able to get at least 4-5 drinks free.

stovies is a Scottish thing. A big mushy plate of mashed tatties mixed with onions and beef. Its lush. And half our table went for that, and half for the bacon rolls.

I've never seen welcome drinks for night guests either :)

and I love the idea of the pipe band! :D xx

Welcome drinks for the evening guests can be easily done.. all your other guests will already be in the bar or in your room. So all you'd need is a couple members of staff at the main entrance handing out the welcome drinks x

My cousin had sausage sarnies and chips at her night do, and we thought about it but figured we could have bacon butties every day so opted for a finger buffet with a couple of 'posher' things on the menu.

yeah Stovies is traditionally something eaten on Mondays, using left over Sunday lunch. or in olden days what the rich folk gave to their serving staff to eat. Leftovers!

i love it. One of the few things I eat with broon sauce!

Last two comments - think Linzi is referring to the evening reception bit, I'm more than happy to provide welcome drinks and drinks on tables etc for the daytime guests but not doing for the evening ones and I dont think they would expect it either really x

yes sorry i didnt word it right know thats what she means,i ment that you obv tend to do that but on top of that doing it for evening could end up being a waste as drinks choice isnt always to everyones taste and packages are a lot more for the reception.x
