So we got married in July and had set up a gift list with John Lewis. Since setting this up we have had nothing but problems with the company. We went to store and set up the list with ease, sent out the invites with the details inside and kept an eye on the list online in the run up to the wedding. All looked good until about 3 weeks before the wedding we got a call to say an item that had been bought was being discontinued so no longer available!!! We didn’t understand this as it had been bought 5 weeks before and surely should have been placed ready for collection. My husband spoke to them and they said that things purchased are not picked for delivery until 1 week after the wedding!!! This lead to hubby having a row with them and getting the kettle from another shop and JL giving us the cash for it!!
We set up a delivery date for when we got back from honeymoon which was yesterday 28th Aug. When we got back from honeymoon I have 3 messages from JL telling me that 1 item had been dispatched and had we received it? And that 2 other items (1 plate out of a set and 2 placemats out of a set) were only available online and do we want these? (We have bought a set of 8 dinner plates but actually I now only want 7!! Are they stupid??!!!!!) We arrived home to find a box put over our side gate on view for all to see!! Soaking through and damaged!!! This was something that should have been signed for but the delivery driver seemed to think it acceptable and safe to put it over the gate!!! They were very lucky it didn’t get pinched!!!!
So yesterday came and my hubby waited in all day for the delivery to arrive. It never showed up!!!! Totally furious with this total waste of his day he phoned them today to be told “O that’s a collation date not the delivery date” to which he asked why our items were not collated 1 week after the wedding (4 weeks ago) as this is what is says in all the paperwork and also why had they sent a confirmation of date letter plus the 3 people we have spoken to since returning from honeymoon have all confirmed this date as delivery date!!!! After making a formal complaint and setting up a new delivery date for tomorrow JL offered us £50 in vouchers.
All this has been a big headache that just shouldn’t have happened after our amazing wedding.
So here is a warning to all brides thinking about getting a gift list from JL. If you really want products from JL I would suggest getting guests to give you gift vouchers and then going to store and picking the products yourself.
Sorry for the long rant ladies but I thought it would be better to warn other brides to prevent others having the same hassle we have had.

Lows, we had similar issues with them, which resulted in £175 worth of compensation in vouchers. The lady that I had dealing with all the complaints I had was amazing. She was the only one I trusted to get things sorted in the end. But i wouldn't recommend them again.
Sorry you had to go through such a stressful experience with them x

I didnt think I would be the only one to have issues when we were told that the giftlist has their own complaints department!!!!
I dont mind about me but dont want other brides to have to have the same hassle.

Absolutely! They didn't have a dedicated department for Gift List complaints when I had all the hassle. I can't believe that this cr@p is still happening. I was sooooo angry at the time. I have let go of most of it now, but I still get 'the rage' when I think about it too much LOL!

I just cant believe how disorganised the whole system is considering that they are supposed to be a high end premier department store!!!
Just a total joke. We have had stuff from debenhams too and they have been so easy and straight forward.

Oh dear! Sorry to hear about that lows!

I'll be going with the other big high end department store H of F. My sister and a family friend both did theirs with them and both hd great experiences so hoping for the same. Plus I have a store card with them so I get bonus points with them.

Thats really bad.... make sure you write a good complaint letter and dont stop until you get some compensation. My friend is using Dhams at the moment and really good feedback from them. My only point with using selfridges, h of f or any others is that there isnt loads of shops around so some poeple may not have a local shop to them and i know my grandparents would enjoy shopping and picking our wedding presents rather than buying them online so we will use dhams as more frequent shop for everyone.
