    Hello all,

We are getting married in August next year.

As it is a Friday wedding, I want to send save the date cards to our day guests so that they can book time off work, and also we are having some from the other end of the country so want to give them as much notice as possible.

Although around eighty percent of our guest list is final, there are a few who we are unsure about and don't want to tie ourselves to inviting them to our day do if we haven't seen them for ages or no longer socialise with the,. Is it acceptable just to send save the date cards to those travelling from far away and those I know I definitely want to be their?

Or should I just give everybody std's?

Also, I have family down in Wales that I get in with well, and if they lived closer I would definitely have them there. However I know they might not be able to afford to attend (we live and are getting married in York) and would hate for them to feel obliged to come if they couldn't really afford it. How should I deal with this? I'd hate to leave people who will be able to come off the guest list and then they aren't able to come. We are having a maximum of fifty day guests as the room I want to have the wedding breakfast in cant realistically hold that much more.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

    Xx

    Hello,

We sent save the dates to people who we def wanted there (regardless of where they lived (although family living far away was the main reason we were doing them) and didn't bother sending them with the ones we are unsure about - just incase we changed our minds!. We are also getting married on a Friday (Good Friday) so wanted to give people as much notice as possible.

What about giving your family a call first to gauge the reaction - least then you will have an idea of if they can come or maybe compromise by just inviting them to the evening? Most places have budget hotels that offer cheap rooms if booked well in advance and I'm sure the more notice you give them the more time they will have to save the money if they really want to be part of your special day :-)

Let us know how you get on xx

    Kelly x

Hi, When we sent our save the dates we sent them out to the people we really wanted to be at the day. The people we were unsure of just got a normal invitation 4 months before the day, which i still think is plenty of time! As for family living away i would send the save the dates anyway (if you really want them there) even if they can't make they will be pleased that they got invited, i would anyway xxx

We sent save the dates to everybody we knew we definitely wanted to invite - and emailed these out to save on postage costs - this was for both evening and day guests, no point sending a save the date if you don't want to invite them! Image is in my albums if you want to see :-)

Were sending ours to those that are definite, there's a few people on the guest list that we're not quite decided on so these wont get them.

Oh good, I wanted to make sure I wasn't committing a major faux pas by only sending them out to some people...
