Is this allowed and, if so, how many songs? Forgot to ask when booked yesterday.

I don't really know what the rules are on this, but it's pretty much guaranteed you won't be allowed hymns, or any song with a substantially religious content.

I might be wrong Mrs Buzz, but I'm not sure she's talking about a civil partnership - but a civil ceremony. ie, a wedding not in a church..

that's a funny question? Just want a sing song with the guests. lol. I do believe you can change your name in a civil partnership, just like a civil wedding. Had a sing song 10 years ago, but it was a church wedding.

LMAO Buzz! Not as bad as my mate though. When she went to uni any forms she had to fill in she put that she was in a civil partnership. I caught her writing it down when we were filling out a questionaire and I was like "Mate, what are you talking about?!" She goes "Errrrrrr!!! If you live with someone that your not married to your in a civil partnership."....."Commonlaw husband and wife mate. A civil partnership is for same sex married couples"

You arent allowed hymns and the songs you choose have to be run past the Registrar that will be taking the ceremony (or their office) is what I have been informed........

You can have music, as long as there is no mention of god or religion, Pieu Jesu would not be allowed. We r getting married at registry office and the registrar gave us a list of songs that they have already, or we can provide our own, just let them know what they are and check our cd plays on their system. If your service is at a country hotel, i'm guessing the registrar still needs to be present, so they should be able to give you the information you need x
  18.

Yes, no mention of religion at all, for example can't have Robbie Williams Angels. Locally they are very tough, cannot have a lyric including the words, prayer, heaven, angel and all sorts.

I've never seen singing at a registrar, so don't know if it's allowed or not.

I have seen people play live music or a solo singer.

Just a general piece of advice about registrar weddings. If you go for the basic option it can be very, very short, always consider having some readings, music, poems, etc to extend it out to make it feel more of a ceremony.

(ask me another time about the science behind this which proves your marriage will last (or last longer))

hmm, hadnt really thought about that yet. We are saying our own vows, but they are really short too. Maybe I can find some poems to be read out.
But what would people do when music is played half way through? just sit and look at each other? or do you mean somebody performing??
oh think piper doing highland cathedral half way through might be nice....... argh heads in a spin, thanks Simon! lol

do you think they will let you have the word "God" in a wedding blessing? My FIL is Irish, and there will be lots of Irish family there, and they are all Catholic. I have just found an Irish blessing that I would love FIL to read out at the weddding, but it has the word God in it. Think registrar would go nuts? do we have to tell them?
