Well ladies, the title says it all. My videographer has just said he has an unavoidable family engagement (wont say what) and cant make my wedding!! To cap it all I have now paid him in full, he says it will be refunded within 4weeks!!! He says thats his policy... I understand it may be very important, whatever the engagement is but he refused to say what and now even if I could find someone I dont have enough money left to book another videograhper. I have just about scaped together a couple of hundred pounds as everything had to be paid in full this month. What can I do?? Im getting married in Fife, Scotland.

OMG this isn't good to read does he not have anyone else in the company or that he works with that would cover it?

Do you have anyone in the family that has a video camera etc?

I would do a quick search on here see if anyone got any thing space wise, maybe if you explain they maybe a give you discount or let you pay some now some when get money from other one? x

Have you got wedding insurance? I would think they would cover what you paid till he refunds you! And the radio idea is great!

Aww Kat how awful for you sweetie, I really hope you do find someone who's willing to help you in some way x

Lana... I don't think a radio station would do a name and shame. A newspaper would as they have pages to fill but a radio station is generally music fun banter and a short segment of mostly essential (though I doubt celebs class as essential but...) news so they wouldn't have space for that kind of story.

I'm sure a news paper would do an exposé on dodgy traders BUT since the guy is being "fair" in that he's sticking to his policy of 28day refund and he has a family crisis I don't think the papers would find much of a story. So I think such a threat would probably only cause aggro.

A month to refund when he is the one that let you down! That's terrible; I'd suggest asking a family member to video it then go to a company that can edit amature videos if you want more of a professional feel to it. Also try G**-tree as many videographers and photographers start off there and offer their service for free so they can build up their portfolio or for a small price :)

Have you got a contract? Our first photographer cancelled on us and in our contract it said she was legally obliged to find someone else to cover. If not, I would be on the phone demanding he give you a refund in the form of a cheque made payable to the new videographer so you don't miss out!!

    That is awful :(

Maybe ask him If he can find someone(another company he knows or has worked with before?) to cover him, and have him pay in full to that other person? They can make arrangements between them? Its a long shot but worth ago!? I hope everything works out for you!

I don't get why it takes 4 weeks to refund though? Surely he could just bacs it?? Have you told him you understand it's in the t&c's that it takes 28 days but that you simply can't afford to pay another without his money? He might surprise you and do it sooner if you explain that?

I don't see why he can't refund now, he is the one who canceled not you, surely he needs to appreciate your wedding is due in less than 28 days therefore an immediate refund is not been unreasonable. Could you maybe get a 0% credit card and only spend to the amount your due to be refunded that way you could pay now and not have interest on the balance, or speak to your bank to see if you can have a temporary overdraft increase, not ideal but gives you the cash now and the amount can be repaid when you get your refund.

hmmm fair enough having a family emergency but to leave you 4 weeks without your money back i think is slightly rude considering he is the one cancelling.
he must know that with a week to go you needed everything booked and ready to roll....very poor customer service!

Could a family member do it for you? it would make them feel cherished as they have something important to be involved in on your special day?

Contact him and demand a refund now! He has let you down you need the money for someone more reliable. Advise that if he doesn't then you will name and shame him on all social media sites, I would not book someone who had done that and neither would many other people. If he doesn't refund you the money now it will cost him more in the long run. He is in breach of contract not you x
