Sorry girls, gotta have a rant! Ive just got off the phone to my local registry office and i have an issue with ID. They r saying i need to take in a passport as ID to give my notice of intent to marry and i dont have one so they said do i have a full birth certificate, which i have, but they also want my parents birth certificates and i dont speak to my mum or dad anymore! She said that i need to prove they were born here so they know what nationality i am! (english) I said well its says on my birth certificate where i was born so doesnt that prove it and she said well no cos if one of ur parents was born in a different country then i could have taken their nationality, and i said well im not sure where they were born and she said it will be on my birth certificate, which it is, and there it is both mum and dad were born in england! why do i even need their certificates if it says where they r born on mine! I just dont get all this! so i can either pay to get a passport now which is god knows how much nowadays or pay for copies of my parents birth certificates and i dont drive so cant go to the offices to get them, im not even sure if they will post them out 2 me or not! This is ridiculous! I just wanna get married, is that 2 much to ask! :(

we were told the same thing but when we went to give notice the registrar said that you no longer need parents birth certificates as long as u have ur own full one, the refused a passport as well i would phone them back and ask to speak to the 'head registrar' as it changed earlier this year. we are in scotland so maybe that is different i'm not sure where u are but that is wot we got told hope this helps xxx

The register office which holds your parents' birth certificates should post them out to you for a small fee. I got my father's birth certificate sent to me a few years ago, I did it all online. I would hazard a guess that it would be cheaper for you to get both parents' birth certificates than it would be for you to get a passport, as it is £80 just to renew your passport, and now if it is your first passport you would need to go to a passport office for an interview too.

Im in essex, i spoke to someone from essex first aho put me through to harlow one (where i live) and even he said yeah it seems a bit silly but the lady from harlow said thats what i need. I just feel so down now cos i feel like i cant do what i wanna do with my life and theres a reason why i dont speak to my parents so its just upsetting that they r still getting in the way of my life without doing anything, i wanna cry :'(

ive just ordered a copy of my mums and dads birth certificates, total cost £18.50. got them directly from the general register office site so cheaper than other certificate ordering sites, apparently this is where the companies go to order them anyway! Going to get them in late october. feel a bit better now but still sick of things coming up all the time that make me feel like the marriage is destined not 2 happen! well im gonna make it happen dammit! lol thanx 4 advice ladies x
