    Hi all!
My fiance and I :D hehe got engaged at Christmas. We both live in Aberdeen, but we met in York. He also has family there and as my family is spread about, York is quite central and easy for people to get to. Due to this we are looking to book our wedding in york/shire.
However, being 300-400 miles away this is going to be hard to sort. I'm also studying whilst working having to submit weekly assignments with yearly exams.
I am desperate for advice on how to make this work and how we go about getting things sorted for a venue that isn't just around the corner, but in a different country!
Any suggestions, pointers, advice etc would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks you :D

Hello! I'm getting married in York too :-) but live a bit closer!

Are you already familiar with the venues in York?

I think it could be done quite easily....over than viewing the venue, we've sorted out most things via emails and phone calls, even though we do live local. Could you maybe arrange to come down one weekend to look around a few of the venues? As you'll know, everything is quite close together so it would be fairly easy to see a few in a day.

Also, could you enlist h2bs families help with research etc before hand? Most things are on the t'internet nowadays anyway, so I honestly don't thing it will be a massive problem...

I know we have a few ladies on here that are getting married a way away from where they live, hopefully they'll pop up with some tips.

Good luck with the planning and congratulations in your engagement xx

    Congrats on your engagement!

Mines not as far away at yours (120 miles) but still an annoyance, i have just made sure i kill two birds with one stone really for example i'm booking the next priest visit on the same day as the photographer etc also if you have family members lose by, any deposits could be given by them, saves you going over just to pay deposits and alot of things can be done over the phone too. It is trickier obviously but there are ways around it :) x

We're from Leeds but got married in Gretna Green. We visited for a weekend after booking our ceremony, and to look for reception venues. Once we found one we liked we kept in contact via telephone and email and the wedding co-ordinator was great, nothing too much trouble.

We sent out save the date's to guests just over a year before - as it gave them plenty of time to book time off work, transport and hotels. We also made sure we got our rsvp's back 3 months before the wedding (along with menu choices) so that we could arrange another visit with the venue to finalise menu's, seating plans etc (we drew them a scale model so they could keep it on file). Whilst we were there, we organised calling at the registry office to hand in our M10 forms etc, and again made it a weekend away.

I'm sure once you find your venue, you'll be able to email and phone them with any queries and make sure, if you can, to have a weekend there to finalise things in good time.

York is a lovely place so you shouldn't have any problems getting a good venue.
