So we have started the search for a venue! We have quite a low budget so are having to be careful with what we choose. Does anyone know of any great venues at a low cost?

Hello!
Where abouts are you looking hun?
Have you set a date yet? A lot of wedding venues will give you a better deal for low season or weekday weddings.
Get on google - your local council will have a list of all venues licensed to perform a civil ceromony, if that's what you want.
If its just a reception venue, thinking outside the box can lead to some great, relatively inexpensive venues - pubs, rugby clubs, lodges etc are often miles cheaper than hotels and can look just as lovely - drinks and catering are often a lot cheaper too.
Do you have a rough idea of how much you want to spend on a venue, and how many guests? Xx

I'm not in the same area as you, but we were looking on the Surrey/Berkshire border, so a very expensive area. We got a really really good deal by just talking to them. Don't juts look at their packages on their website, phone/email or go and see them. Our place has taken £25 per head off their price for us, plus reduced all bar prices by 20% for our guests for the whole event.
When I initially contacted them I said we were not bothered about chair covers, didn't need a master of ceremonies as a friend will do it, didn't want a buffet in the evening but bacon/sausage baps instead, said we'd do our own place names. Just taking out those small things has literally saved us thousands of pounds.
The advantage we had was that we booked it just 7 months before the wedding. They don't expect to get any more bookings that late, so they make an extra effort to get the business in. There was another hotel that didn't. To make the same changes to their package they offered a reduction of £2.50 per person!! Not exactly in the same league! Play places off against each other. Tell one place what another has offered you and ask if they can match/better it. (But be honest).
The main thing that helped us was being upfront an honest. We said we had a tight budget, but we told them we loved the place. We've got a 4* hotel at less than the price of a 3* as a result. Good luck!!

We're on a low budget too. We're hiring a village hall for £280 for 3 days! That way we have the freedom to decorate how we like, and to arrange our own food and drink. We're having it lined with marquee lining so it should look something like this..
