I'm just wanting to have a bit of a moan as h2b is useless and thinks I am over reacting.... We went to see a hotel about 2 months ago and even though they had not finished redecoration we fell in love with it and the price was very reasonable. The man we spoke to said to e-mail him with a rough idea of what we want and he would send us prices, which he did and we were very happy, he said he could hold the date we want for 2 weeks while we decide and then we would have to pay a £250 deposit, so we decided to go ahead and pay. We had a lot of trouble wth a forgein lady who barely spoken any english when I went it to pay and so decided we would call them the next day to speak to somebody who could help. I spoke to a really nice girl who took my deposit and said she would send the receipt out the same day and get the function manager to call to sort out contracts me as he was off sick. I received the receipt within a few days but no phone call. After 3 weeks of trying to e-mail him I got sick of waiting for a response or a phone call and I called him... the lady on the phone told me had had left the company suddenly and she couldn't help me so I would have to call their sister hotel. I called them and they said nobody was available but they would get somebody to contact me. I have an e-mail 3 weeks ago to say that they now had a new function manager and they would be in touch but I've still heard nothing. All I want is to get the contracts sorted and find out what happens next as I'm getting a bit worried. When I said this to h2b yesterday he told got arsey with me and told me to stop going on about it because we need to meet up with the bloke... I hdn't mentioned it since the day I got the e-mail from them so how is that going on about it.... AAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! Sorry for moaning but I dont have anyone else to moan to at the moment :(

you have every right to moan hun, i would phone up again, demand to speak to the function manager in person. you only have 10 months to plan so need to get it sorted. i would just keep calling and calling them, after all they have taken your money and not provided any service in return yet. thankfully you have a receipt but thats not the point. if they are still no help, i would consider trying a new venue. you dont want to have your wedding at venue who are not proving very reliable at the moment. what if it was an emergency and you needed to speak to them? if the phone call doesnt work, write or demand to speak to the manager stating how upset you are with their lack of contact
I think if I cant get hold of him when I call later on I will go down there. I understand that it is busy wedding season at the moment and the new manager has only just started but a phone call would be nice. I dont think h2b understands how much planning a wedding takes, he just keeps saying that this new manager is going to be very busy and he'll be trying to sort out the weddings this year as ours is not til next year it will be bottom on their list of priorities... makes me sound like a bit of a stroppy but thats not my problem. I used to be a very calm, laid back person...lol

We had a similar experience with our hotel - we booked with a lovely man who took our booking and wrote it in the diary. They didn't want a room hire payment and didn't want to take a deposit. A few months later the hotel got in touch to say he'd left and they've found my telephone and name in the diary but nothing else. We had to go back to the hotel and start again, times, food, room layout, dj and then later on they wanted £250 for the room hire. To top it all they didn't have the groom nor the best man's room for the night before the wedding so they had to stay elsewhere.
Anyway, in the end it all worked out fine and we had our perfect wedding reception!

well you need to get the contract signed, thats not your problems, its the venues. and allthough it is busy wedding season, once again not your problem. our venue have told us they will not contact us formally until January next year for our July wedding but we can phone up etc whenever we need advice.surely the manager has people he can delegate to? and how long does it take to arrange a contract? stick to your guns! men! honestly! lol

I'm glad your worked out ok Manxbird... I hope I have the same luck! I know what you mean amie, all I want is the contract and for my mind to be put at ease so I know what happens next. And I thought weddings were meant to be fun lol! I think I need to get stroppy!

i would be stressing as well hun! and i would start looking for another venue if they are going to be difficult, or at least threaten them with it - might make them pull their finger out x
CommentAuthorCowChop
I am thinking oit but the problem is we are on a tight budget and we've already given them a £250 deposit so I cant afford to lose it. I've managed to get his mobile number now but he wasn't answering so I've left a message.... I'll just have to keep trying. x
CommentAuthorPossum
I'd be interested in trip advisor actually - some of them are awful! I read one that was horrendous. May I ask your venue? Absolutely no pressure to say! xxx

I feel your pain hun, I am having the same communication issues with my hotel with only 12 days to go!!!! They have had 4 wedding co-ordinators since I booked it last September! I have dealt with the new wedding co-ordinator, the Events manager and now I am on to the Sales Manager, however he has been with them 4 days and decided to go on holiday, its a fuc*ing joke quite frankly! So I rang them today and let loose on them and they have the owner calling me back tonight... APPARENTLY!!!! Time will tell, I have had enough, if I was you hun I would turn up on their doorstep and not move until you have got what you want!!!!!!!! Let them know right from the off that you are not going to take any crap from them!!!!
Do not disturb... Already disturbed enough!

Well, we just had our meeting with the new function manager and I am furious! He said they had now changed their company policy and you are not allowed to supply your own buffet for the evening, which was one of the main things for us as a friend of the family who owns a cafe said he would do it for us as a gift, we argued that we had paid our deposit on the understanding that we would be able to but he said the best he could do was speak to the owner but he cant promise anything. He also said he will have to check the prices for everything else that had been agreed as he is not sure about them. Problem is because the last function manager left 2 days after we had paid the depoist he didn't sort out our contract. I just wanna cry! H2B has gone out to look at a van so thank goodness for my dog, he's given me some cuddles and listened to me.

Sorry Possum, I only just saw your response, it is the George Hotel in Kettering but it has fairly recently been taken over by new owners so the stuff on there isn't all that relevant.

awww no Cow thats awful...grr im angry for you but im not sure what you can do other than ask for your deposit back and try find somewhre else..if this is the way they want to treat potential customers and lose out on money, then let them..but id certainly but looking for somewhere else
and without a contract, it is easy for them to turn around and change prices cause nothing has been signed :(x x

We have said to them that we want our deposit back if they are going to change things as we are on a tight budget but he said they aren't sure if they can do that. We have got all thisn stuff in writing through e-mails but like you said nothing is signed so I dont know what I can do. The problem with changing venues is they own the 2 hotels big enough for a wedding in the town, otherwise we will have to look in nearby towns :(
I would read that honey - even the very recent reviews xxx
CommentAuthorCowChop
Thank you! To be fair they are renovating it at the moment, it was closed for a couple of months, around april, may time so it does look a lot nicer now than it did when the last owners had it. And my friend got married in its sister hotel just up the road last year and that was great. I think it just kind of boils down to the last bloke not doing things properly and he's just left them in the s**t. He said he will call me on wednesday whae the owner is back and let me know what he has said so I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
CommentAuthorPossum
Hope it goes well!! Funny he should say he couldn't talk because he was working - are you not a client and is it not part of his job to help? x
CommentAuthorCowChop
yep, I might show h2b that website when he gets home and have a look for somewhere else. Its a shame cos the actual function room is beautiful :( Thank you for your help!
CommentAuthorPossum
Don't disregard it on what i've said - but its worth being cautious about it. Make sure you have wedding insurance before paying out for the venue xx
CommentAuthorCowChop
I will do, thank you again!x
CommentAuthorVsmith
How's it all working out for you hun? You know you don't have to have a written contract to make it legally binding. As long as you have written proof of what was said and agree upon that is good enough. A verbal contract is just as good as a written one.
CommentAuthorMagsy
just saw this thread. hope things are working out for you xx
CommentAuthorCowChop
We had a call from the function manager to say he has spoken to the owner and he is still saying no, he said he will do everything he can to cut down the price of the buffet for us. H2b is going to give the owner a call to speak to him himself, he is going to point this out to himk so hopefully it will be sorted very soon. Planning a wedding is not as much fun as I thought!

Thank you magsy!
