So today I had a phone call from the venue (it's a memorial hall and theatre which you can hire for different functions including wedding parties etc) too run through a checklist to make sure everything was set in place etc.

15 days before the wedding and they've dropped two bombshells on me!

When I placed the booking (in person) it was agreed that we would have full access too the on sight kitchen apart from the cookers.
This worked out well as we don't need the cookers but we need the fridges too store things like desserts, chilled items and also my expressed breast milk for my 20 week old daughter as I won't be able to breastfeed in my dress!
They've now said we can't use the fridge as there's an event on the next day....
    How is that my problem????
The woman on the phone is going too have a word with her manager too see what's what but her only suggestion was I put my EBM in the fridge behind the bar.... Yeah great a fridge that will constantly be open and closed all day/night so won't even keep it at the required temperature!

Then she asked me what time did we want the bar too close, too which I replied 12:30am will be ample enough. She then said btw everyone and everything needs too be removed from the venue by 1am....
This includes 20 round tables worth of dressings, centre pieces, 200 chairs with covers and sashes, wall wash mood lighting, starlight back drop, bay trees, everything involved with the DJ and his gear, the buffet leftovers and tables used for buffet and any and all rubbish....
That means I'm going too have to cut my party short by HOURS!!!!
Bearing in mind that the venue dressers will be having access from 9am for everything too be ready for 4pm!
How the hell can they do that!

To top it all off I've mislaid my contract from when I made the booking :(
I'm trying too get hold of my venue dressers too see what they can do as they've worked with this venue before so hopefully they can wangle that they come back first thing in the morning but I'm not holding my breath :(

I just don't know what too do now :(

That is terrible, stand your ground, when did you book your wedding, was it before this other event, and even so, if they said you can use it. Say no I'm using it, it was shredded I could use everything in the kitchen apart from the cookers.
Is my wedding in 15 days, tell the others people they can use the fridge.

This is the last thing you need. And like you say breast milk needs to be kept as at a steady temp, unless they want you daughter to become ill.

They should have a copy of the contract to, ask to see it.

I hope your dressers can help if they have done stuff there before. X

    That's awful!
They need to produce the contract. It's not your problem there is an event the following day, those people will just have to make do with the following day.

Hope you get it sorted out.

My event dressers are trying to get hold of them as even they feel this is outrageous!
I paid £600 for this venue and expect too get my moneys worth! Otherwise I'll be demanding money back if they force me too cut my wedding party short!
If I'd have known this from the start I wouldn't have booked with them and gone elsewhere!

Why on earth does the event the following day need to use the fridges the day before? I hope they are paying for this privelige because you certainly shouldn't be paying for them to use them when you have booked the hall. Def hunt for that contract and lets hope the venue dressers can help you out. X

sounds like the venue just make it up as they go along, it is outrageous that they expect a wedding to be cleared that night, if they want it cleared then let them do it, you should be enjoying your day not worrying over the time and doing chores, as for the fridges they agreed you could use them and you should whether its in the contract or not. seriously bad customer service and it sounds like they are more interested in money making than pleasing their customers. Hope you get it sorted hun

We had our wedding reception in a goods shed at a railway museum. Our cut off time for music to be off was 11pm and everyone had to be off site by 11.45. We had to do a bit of tidying up before we left but they were happy for us to come back the next morning to finish up. They kept the goods shed closed until we'd finished. I would've thought they could come to some sort of agreement with regard to the tidying up and I really don't understand what the issue is with the fridges!

Not the stress you need right now. I really hope you get it sorted x

whaaaaat. so you had to tidy up your own wedding ! an irregular arrangement i would say. I think it’s worth doing some homework when planning a venue to weed out those little details that can put a dampener on things. My sister got married at a venue in London last year and she got a whole load of extras thrown in for the price. first up they through in a discounted catering services (which was actually very very good) secondly they committed to being flexible on the time out part of the agreement. overall you couldn’t fault it, getting a really creative catering spread laid on (it wasn’t just sausages on a sticks !!) and the deal of having your guest being able to hangout and enjoy the day. I would recommend anyone sorting a wedding to check out the company we used (think they were called ****** ) but get a really cool and unique venue at a reasonable price and it will defo help thing go more memorably.

Have you paid the full amount for the venue yet? or do you still have a small amount left to be paid? If so I would tell them that as they are not sticking to the pre-agreed arrangements then you will be with holding that money until the situation is sorted

We had similar problem and so went on line and found loads and loads of places available at short notice. try this place - it’s a wedding venue called********** , they are London based but they have loads of connections to other venues with all different specs (things like garden hire, prop hire etc) but also they are quite posh and affordable too, or so we found. can’t recall what their website is, presumably ********l either .com or co.uk You can even haggle with the too which we were surprised about.

Unfortunately I've paid them in full a few months back but I had a phone call today and they are providing a fridge for me so I can store my breast milk and desserts/chilled items etc.
They've also extended the time too clear everything away from 1am too 2am which isn't great but something we can work with at least!

Ok so after a few more hiccups as they've now said that the DJ I've hired can't use the stage that I've paid for as part of my package I've blown my top and just sent them this email!
    Do you think it's ok?

"I've managed to get hold of **** and we've rearranged a few things with the decorations. He will be attempting to ring you sometime tomorrow to update you with the new plans.

There's a few things that I'm not happy about and would like to address.

First of all the DJ not being able to set up on the stage when I've paid for use of the fore stage as part of my package. This is now a moot point as I've already rearranged where the DJ will be setting up due too your limitations but this is not acceptable. My DJ is also not impressed with your lack of communication on important key points.

Secondly the use of the kitchen as previously agreed in my original booking. It was agreed that I would have full use of the kitchen minus the use of ovens/cookers so we could set up any food/drinks we needed too and also store any chilled items and also my expressed breast milk. I appreciate you have supplied a fridge too use at the last minute, which I hope will be adequete for the intended purpose, but had you not reneged on the original agreement then this would not have been necessary.

Thirdly I was never informed about the "roping off" of the dance floor. I understand the need for health and safety re: spilled drinks etc but this should have been mentioned on any of the numerous communications that I've had with various staff, at the very least at the time of the booking, thus negating the need too completely rearrange my decorations and table arrangements a week before the wedding causing undue stress too an already stressed out bride!

Fourthly I was never informed about having to have everything removed by 1am! I was under the impression that our rubbish had to be cleared and all guests vacated by the end of hire time but not that this included the hired decorations as well! The fact that you have another event the next day is not my problem and should not effect my party. Had this information have been disclosed at booking then arrangements could have been put into place too make sure this demand was met.

Points three and four could have cost me more money if **** and myself weren't able too find a workable solution too the problems you caused due too lack of information. Would you have covered these costs if we weren't able too do this? I highly doubt it! And just incase you were wondering what costs I could be referring too, here's a quick but not exhaustive breakdown for you:

£150 for **** to come back in the evening too move the starlight back drop ready for the dance floor too be used as it would have been a potential health and safety hazard if left in it's position due to the risk of it falling onto the dance floor instead of the stage as there would be nothing behind it too catch it's fall.
Staff wages for **** too have enough employees too remove all the decorations under your new time restrictions which would more than likely be at double pay given the unsociable work hours.

I understand that I have changed the date a couple of times due to our own personal circumstances, however all of these things above could have been avoided had the relevant information been provided in a more timely manner. After all my event has been booked since 2013! And I have always been forthcoming with my plans for the big day.

All in all I am very dissatisfied with the service I've received and we haven't even done anything yet! You as a company and provider of venue hire have not painted yourselves in a very professional light!
I should have known something was array when you had failed too credit my £300 payment too my account that was paid in 2013! Yet you left it until 2015 too point out that it was missing! Thankfully that error was corrected promptly, luckily I kept my receipt!

Due too all these problems I'm formally requesting that you do two things:

You refund me part of my £600 for not being able to use the fore stage and also not having use of the kitchen.
And as a gesture of goodwill you get your bar staff too pour our arrival drinks and toasting drinks, using our items provided, at no extra cost.

These are not unreasonable requests given what has unfolded.
I am more than willing too let these problems go as long as my requests are met and happily move forward with our big day on a professional level providing there are no more unexpected issues that arise.
But I will not hestitate too take things further as a very unhappy customer so please do not take my inexperience of putting together a wedding party fool you into thinking you can take liberties at my expense."

They're even trying to charge us an extra £30 to have their bar staff pour our arrival and toasts drinks which we are providing along with disposable glasses as they won't provide any as we're not buying the drinks from them as they cost too much!
Their excuse is that the bar staff would have too come in early to do the arrival drinks (pour orange juice into glasses....) but theyre already contracted too start at 3pm and we're not arriving until 4pm!
    It's an absolute joke!

GF idea of taking photos after is a good one but I would also think about taking some before so when they have a complain that x wasn't in that way before you arrived you can show them the before and after shots. It sounds really @nal too, but I would also take pics before of any existing damage (kind of like you would when renting a flat) so they can't blame your party for damage you didn't cause.

I hope you have a lovely day regardless of these idiots trying to make a quick buck. X

The lady in direct contact with me has only worked there the last 6 months or so and has been really nice but given I've had the venue booked since January 2013 she thought it best to go straight too the boss to get it all sorted out! She wasn't in on Friday so hopefully I'll here back sometime this week!

At least one member of staff is being nice to you. It would definitely be worth it to keep looking for the contract, as if they are in breach of it you are well within your rights to request a partial refund. I think the letter that you have written is really good. If you have extra costs from the venue dressing company you should charge those to the venue as well (providing there was nothing in the contract about being out at 1 am). They shouldn't have booked an event for the following day that was going to affect what they had already offered you, so I would definitely keep pushing them.
