Hello, We had booked our local cricket club as our reception venue (we are on a very tight budget) and the deposit has been paid, buffet has been ordered and arranged and I was busy buying decorations to pretty the place up. We thought it was good the other day when a friend told us that there was a sign outside the venue to say that they have just refurbished, however, we have been onto their website, there are no pictures yet so we aren't sure what it now looks like but the problem we do have is that they are now stating that it holds 40 - 60 seated and 100 max guests. It was originally 80 seated and 120 maximum guests when we booked it and that was going to be just about right, hoping that the children wouldn't mind not having seats, being too busy dancing and running around. Now what are we meant to do, we're getting married in July so we haven't got much time to change venue and we would need to save a hell of alot more money to pay for something bigger and better. Any ideas of places greatly appreciated, we are getting married in Studley, Warwickshire nr Redditch and Stratford Upon Avon.
xx

Have you actually spoken to your venue and had them confirm that the refurbishment has reduced the numbers that they can hold? xx

Have you contacted them to see whether they can still fit you all in? With it being an outstanding booking then they could still honour it.

i agree with the other ladies you need to ring or pop in and check with them see what they say before you get to upset and worried. x

Yes we rang as soon as we saw and they confirmed it was now 40 - 60 seated, we explained it was different when we booked and the lady who we were talking to didn't seem to think it had ever been any different. We have it written down in our original forms that its 80 seated. We had already shortened our list but H2B has a rather large family. Trying to frantically get price ranges for other places but they seem to withhold that information till you go and visit them personally and we don't have time to do that with all of them especially as we have moved away from the area we are getting married in! It is a buffet we had booked but we are there after the wedding which is at 13:00 till the night. xx

did you get like a contract off the venue when you booked it. i have one and mine states that they are not liable if they decide to do any refurbishments or alterations to the venue. x

Can you send someone to have a look at the venue for you? someone who knew what it looked like before, if the woman on the phone seemed to think it had always looked like that maybe they have advertised less for some other reason the problem you have though is that by law they shouldnt allow more in due to fire regs, is there not a social club with a function room nearby or some schools hire out there school halls at weekends x
CommentAuthorHa_x3
Surely if you booked it before they decided to refurb etc then it shouldnt apply to you? I would of thought for parties already booked it wouldnt/shouldnt affect them? and only apply to people booking after etc

If the room can't physically hold 80 people though, then you will need a plan B (sharpish). If this is the case, I would hope you can at least get your deposit back!
Like someone else suggested above, maybe someone else could go and check out potential alternative venues in the area?

Its just my opinion becky -mrs firth 2b, I think its unfair changing things once booked, especially now it means she may have to cut out people from her special day,or go else where.

If you have wedding insurance then maybe contact them and see if they can help? I would think that if you already have a contract with this venue and they are not going to honour it, then they would be liable for any difference in cost if you have to book somewhere else. It would depend on the terms of the contract though - if you are talking about big differences in money that you really can't cover yourselves then I think you need to get legal advice ASAP.

We haven't got wedding insurance it was one of those things we haven't get sorted. My mum is going to go and speak to them in person tomorrow as she lives in the area, i'm angry about it as we only heard about the refurb by word of mouth and I agree we should of been contacted out of courtesy, I wonder how many people are actually unaware of this change still. xx

That's awful they haven't told you - what if you'd turned up on the day! Would they have made some people go home?? That's really unprofessional & they should refund you asap! Good luck finding somewhere hun - are there any pubs around that would let you hire the space & have your buffet? They'd still be making money from your guests buying drinks at their bar :) Xx
