I'd be saying they need to reimburse you for your invites and also pay for cars now too plus a payment or discount on the overall price of the venue for the anxiety and stress they've caused you. It's your dream venue so why should you have to accept an alternative!!!!

I sorry to hear this hunni.

I dont know if they would have something in your contract about that or not.

    Do you have wedding insurance?

Speak to the venue and say to them that you have spent a lot of money on invites with the name of venue on them already sent out so will need knew ones and that you will have to put on extra transport so would the considering helping out with those costs!

Might be hard to get them to pay full for invites etc with no wedding insurance but may be an idea to ask them to contribute towards ordering new invites and the extra transport!

I havent actually taken any out yet as we havent booked any venues.

Im not sure if they see that the insurance was taken out after the date you were told they were cancelling it might not do anything but it is still an idea for future things!

    Iv no idea on prices!!!

Wedding insurance wouldn't cover you now hun as you've already paid deposit and this has happened 'before' the cancellation.

The prices can range from £10 upwards as it depends on what you want to be covered for etc. We've got ours through my-wedding-insurance (dot) com there's a few threads on insurance I'll bump for you. We only paid £28 and it covers loads.

check the contract... ours doesnt mention cancellation due to refurb but does say we will be reimbursed through acts beyond their control, therefore surely would cover acts within their control. Hopefully there will be something within your contract to help you out and support your case.

i agree its impt to send them early in summer etc, there is a wedding literally 2 days before ours so luckily we sent out STD's so now people have assured us that they will take it easy for that wedding as they promised us first and are going to really let their hair down at ours since we are all staying over. Glad that there is one day in between for them to recover incase they dont stick to their promise. They have told us tho that if the weddings were on the same day that since we sent our STD out first they would come to ours so i can see why you found it important to send early. What a pain now though and a predicament. I would call a meeting with the venue. You may not get the full cost reimbursed but they could at least offer you a compromise that suits both partys.

ohhhhh hun i`m so sorry can i just play devils advocate here ....you say you are going to ask the venue to pay for having your invites re done, i think they will prob say well it was you choice to have the printed so early which i`m sorry to say is right ,there was no need to have them printed over a year in advanc
i would however ask them to pay something towards changing your plans

best of luck hun lets us know how you get on

i think they should replace em as they were quick enough takin my money and are council suite so should know in advance not to take bookings if they refurb. im not only one lots of us. also im demanding they pay my transport for the extra miles and lay transport for 40 day guests to attend meal as they only had to cross a road to venue

Linzi - you can get insurance up to 2 years in advance.

Linzie L - I think it's bad that they have cancelled on you but their budgets will have only just come out and probably didn't know exactly when the refurb was going to go ahead...check your contract as our's says we will be reimbursed for any cancellations that the venue make but it's only the deposit and anything else we've paid towards the wedding.

Have you only paid the deposit so far?
Maybe ask them for a small discount or a payment towards travel and invite costs as a gesture of goodwill for messing you about. Mention that you would be prepared to lose the deposit and take your business elsewhere, and that might encourage them to do that... They would lose more money if you cancel the whole thing with them (you don't have to, just threaten them) (although they would probably argue they could re-fill the date...) And make sure you mention that you would give them horrendous reviews anywhere possible ;o)
Bargain with them. Explain your situation and your reasons for choosing them as a venue in the first place.
Hope you manage to sort it xx

They should pay for anything that needs reprinting and also for the cars as it is directly their fault. When our venue double booked and we had to move our date twice they paid me for the invites that I had already made and had to redo and they upgraded our room and a couple of other extra things so go for as much as possible. The worst they can do is say no. And don't feel bad about it. They are the ones messing you about. Not the other way around.

I used to work in the hotal industry and we only found out four weeks before that we were going to get refurbished. Unfortantly things happen that we can't always control and wheather they are council or not doesnt matter it all depends when their head office lets them know.
As for invites again im afraid i have to agree with lala on this one, they could say it was your choice to have them printed over a year in advance so you have to cover the costs of replacing them!

BUT saying that i do think you should ask them to cover the extra travel costs you will have to find for your guests to get to the new venue and maybe ask them for a discount of some sort as the venue they have sent you to is not your first choice or the one you booked!

Goodluck hunni, i hope things work out for you! x
