Received an email yesterday about our venues price increases and my heart sunk. I knew it was coming as we were advised on booking that the price we had booked at were for weddings up to 2011 and we are getting married 2012. The usual price increase would also be met with the VAT increase so I was expecting a hefty increase in our venue cost. I opened the attachment and found it had gone up by £4 per head for the breakfast and another 30p (not much tbh) per head for the buffet. I worked out that it would be an extra £460 at least which I guess wasn't so bad. Well I've been in touch with the venue about something else and the wedding co-ordinator happened to mention that they are going to honour the price we were given when we booked. I am absolutely thrilled. The service we are getting from this company is second to none - it's easy to see why they have been voted best wedding hotel of the year AGAIN.
Have any of you ladies been met with increasing prices? xxx

We booked our venue in June 2010 and were told that once we pay the deposit (which was a might £2000) we would get our wedding in 2012 at the 2010 prices INcluding VAT @ 17.5%. I would have thought that if you have booked and signed a contract, you would have got the price advertised at the time of booking. I'm sorry you haven't :o(

Tinsel I thought the same but someone on here was saying their venue had increased so I decided to check our signed contract. The contract only has the hire price for the two rooms but states nothing about the meal/buffet price so they have every right to charge us what they want. Luckily I have their confirmation of the price in an email so it's essentially written down. Thank goodness. lol. Emsy they are honestly a fantastic bunch of folk. The hotel has been owned by the same family for a long time and I think they pride themselves on their reputation.

We're not marrying until 2014 but our favourite venue so far will honour this year's price if we book this year (one of the factors in us booking so far in advance); another has come back with a fixed-quote up £7 a head on this year, which I'm fine with, at least we know where we stand. I refuse to book anywhere that will not give me a fixed quotation; IMPO if they are happy to take a deposit, they should be able to project ahead or fix current prices. There's one still in the running who won't quote, but I reckon if we said 'Look, if you're going to refuse to draw up a contract with a fixed-price, we'll take our £10k elsewhere thanks', they might change their tune; we shall see.
So, to anyone who hasn't yet booked, I would try to get them to fix a price and write it into the contract. At our first choice, not only will they be fixing this year's prices for the reception, but, as it's a small hotel (we/our guests need to book all the rooms), they will also fix a special rate for this year's room prices, so we could make considerable savings there :-)

Our venue was clever that way - the contract only states you need to have a mimimum spend on dinner - it doesnt say what the prices of the meals will be so they can change at any time x

thats great news, we havent come across any price increases except for the registrar which was expected and i had already estimated what this price would be anyway so was within the budget :) x

That is great news that they are honouring the prices. I think its disgraceful on just how much money they hike it up by each year. Its like the registry fees. Hello? Do you really need to do this as you don't give the staff a wage rise and it doesn't cost them anymore to print a bit of paper.

im a bit worried about this happening to me :(

Try and get things in writing, our registrar when I called to book them confirmed the price in writing for 2013 so we know there won't be a nasty surprise closer to the wedding.

I'd love to own a venue or a business to do with weddings cos they can wack the prices up and people will pay cos it's their wedding! Our registrar fees have gone up cos our wedding is after April. We ended up saying that the flowers are for a birthday party and got them at nearly half the price quoted for the same flowers for our wedding! shocking!
CommentAuthorNHR115
It is shocking the way they treat us all but they know they can get away with it. As I said all our deposits were paid to the venue but we were told straight away there would be an increase. I think it is a very good idea to get things in writing at the beginning and I think I have been lucky in this instance. xxx

Our venue has only increased the wedding breakfast by 50p a head, and the buffet and drinks prices have remained the same. Also the new menu is alot better than last years. so for the 60 people it is only about £30 more, so i am not overly bothered. Still to see if i get a discount as it is a midweek wedding, but since i have already had at least £100 free food, won a £250 cake from them, received £150 off the wedding and have the usual discount on rooms, and free honeymoon room then i guess i am doing quite well from them
