So I pretty much narrowed my venue choice down to one - and I even managed to haggle over £1,000 off the price. But then disaster hit. We wanted to change our date and apparently if we change (from March to May) we HAVE to have a sit down meal. As it's a popular month they won't cater for our requirements (Wedding & Evening Reception only). Out of all our venues - they are the only ones that would force us to have a sit down meal in May - but they were my favourite venue.

So now we either choose a different venue or pay an extra £4,000!

Ah no that sucks; they should honour your requirements; they shouldn't force you like that :(

Oh no, that's not very good service! Ive never heard of a venue point blank refusing to do something based on dates, apart from minimum numbers, and even then most will budge on this if asked.

Quite a few venues do this in our area, some all year round. Could you not change the date to an out of season one, or maybe have your wedding on a Friday?

It's a shame they haven't tried to meet you halfway though xx

I can see why they want u to tho as may is a popular month whereas march isn't so busy so that's probs why they were so accommodating to ur wishes for march as they probs don't get as many weddings then so are still making money from u... I do think they are allowed to do this tho unfortunately just because they know they would be able to fill that may date easily x

They will do our original package on a Monday - even though it's a bank holiday Monday, which is nice of them. But it'll mean come 10pm most guests will leave as they have work the next day & some may not come at all if it means missing work.

We looked at 3 more - none of them seem as nice. I'm torn because now I'm thinking that perhaps a sit down meal would be nice so I can make more of my dress! After all if we don't get married till 4pm it won't get as much use!!!

If we book with them in May, using their minimum requirements, they'll make £1,000 less then if they give us our bespoke wedding. It makes no sense cos they'd loose money!!!

most of the venues we looked at have restrictions during the popular wedding months and have a minimum person requirement to which averaged at 70 for the day and 100 in the evening we only have a top number of 50 in the day and 70 to 80 in the evening which is why we went with a November date as it meant we could have the venue we wanted with out the restrictions

O no :(, problem is the month like they say is more popular. All the places we looked at had minimum number of people and either sit down meal or room hire due to the time of year with it being July. Can u not pay a room hire instead? If u do have the sit down meal try n get extras added on to the package rather than get the price knocked down as a lot won't reduce prices but will give u extras x
