Hi all, we are in a pickle. The town we live in has only two places with a marriage license, 1 is out of our price range and the other is the registry office which I'm not keen on but they will have moved by our wedding and I'm assured it will be a much nicer place. The dilemma we have is that the latest time for a wedding is noon and we had been hoping for a much later wedding to save on meal costs. Should we change to a venue outside of our town with a license (no deposits have been paid as yet so we wouldn't lose money if we did this) so we can marry later or should we stick with an early ceremony and provide a light buffet for lunch and have the meal around 4.30pm? Any views or ideas will be greatly appreciated :)

hmm. well how far is the next district? the fact you have no deposits you could do a bit of research on that, and see if anything comes up that takes your fancy - you never know it may be a blessing in disguise and come up with some amazing venues? otherwise best bet would be 12 ceremony with an early reception and nibbles followed by a 3/4ish meal and then have the night function....i guess?
bit of a pickle indeed

I think I would be both of us have family up and the country so would need hotels and because of the cost of travel, I'm pretty certain all would prefer to be closer to a cheaper hotel instead of a grand one that would cost a fair bit. I do want the big wedding though as my 1st was taken over by everyone so nothing was what I wanted but on the otherhand, both sides are very outspoken and wouldn't hesitate in kicking off about their costs regardless of ours. I'm babbling a bit I know lol xx

I have looked at hotels in the area but nothing takes my fancy as yet, I'm in West Wiltshire if anyone knows of any? xx
What have to lose by telling expensive venue your dilemma - see if you can cut a deal? Nothing ventured, nothing gained...
If they're in the sticks then they might not be that busy for weddings & could be glad of the business?

Very true Amy. I have a dream venue but can't afford the £8000 price with it unfortunately. They are at a local wedding fair so may have a word. We are off to another venue on Monday but this is 1 without a license but is very pretty and very reasonably priced xx

I agree with KelBel, our venue is our dream one too & it's prob about 45 mins away, maybe more for other guests, but there was no compromising, it had to be that venue! You've got plenty of time, do lots of research & you'll be surprised at how many venues you come up with :) good luck xx
