Well I am stuck for ideas! I don't want to spend a fortune and ideally I would like something that looks nice but of course is really cheap.

So our civil ceremony takes place at the venue and I need to dress it up myself. All good, but what to put on the side of the registrar table?

I have this idea of buying cheap bay trees and put fairy lights in them. Do you think that would be too cheap?

Any ideas would be really appriciated.

Ask to look through their albums of previous weddings, see what previous brides have done & steal their ideas if you like them!
If you want bay trees, the big yellow super'M'arket is selling then two for £40 - and they're a decent size too.
It depends on your venue, and your tastes, but there's nothing wrong with keeping it simple. I've got two tall vases with (fake) gladioli flowers and fairy lights for our venue, and hanging home made beaded hearts on the end seats of each row, plus a few (fake because we're not allowed flames at our venue) tea lights dotted around (available in £-stretcher and other saving stores), as it'll suit our venue. Simple, yet effective.

Oh thank you Amy, brilliant ideas. What kind of vases did you buy? I cannot see anything decent online, or maybe I did not look too well. :)

What does the venue look like? If it's nice there's nothing wrong with not decorating it at all.

Thank you Amy for the link, will have a look.

Sarah, venue looks good but I just don't want it to look too empty. I will attend their Wedding Fair next Sunday and see what they have arranged then. I am sure I will get more ideas.

how about making your own pom poms to hang around the room, these can be done cheaply and look really nice. Dry flowers and use these for confetti for the tables. how about hurricane lamps or glass plates with church candles on them.

We're not doing much at all TBH. Our venue is pretty nice, which helps, but basically, we're just having the white chair covers that they provide, then are providing our own ivory taffeta sashes (they provide either silver or navy organza, or can provide alternative colours for an additional £1.50 per chair; we don't like organza, and are buying our sashes for £1.20 each ie less than they'd cost to hire, and we can sell them after). The registrar's table will just be covered with a white cloth, and then when we have photos of us signing the register I'll place my bouquet on it to add decoration.

We don't want to spend lots of money decorating it as we'll be there for all of 30 minutes, plus we're not having a traditional top-table at our reception, or traditional table-centres, so can't even re-use floral arrangements at our reception.

My sister used all the table decorations that were on the dinner tables for the wedding breakfast to dress the ceremony room then the staff at the venue just moved them into the room where the wedding breakfast was whilst we were having photo's done. The same chairs were used too, therefore no need to spend a penny more on deco on the ceremony room xxx

Yes, we are having the ceremony in the same room where the wedding breakfast will be. I am now thinking of buying balloons and decorating the venue with them.
