I am wearing a veil at my wedding and when I said I wanted it back from my face because I hate anything in my face I set off a hot debate with my Mother, sisters and MOH as to the correct way to wear it - everyone totally ignoring me as per usual!!!! ;0). So just out of interest does anyone know what are the traditions behind how you wear the veil? I am going to wear it back but I am not telling them, I will just pull it back (with help of my Dad who is my ally) a second before I walk down the aisle and deal with the fallout afterwards heh!heh!

I hate things over my face too.. Sooo I'm not wearing mine down, my mum wasn't happy either but it didn't cause an arguement, it did however with my grandma!! But she just loves tradition anyway!! Xx

This has come up before - the consensus generally was not to have it over your face I however like to be different - i really want to wear mine over my face - just have to hope it works with how i want my hair :)
There are so many people out there who will tell you
what you can't do.
What you have to do is turn around and say, "watch me"!!

The tradition behind is that in former times weddings would have been arranged and tbe groom woukd have seen the bride literally the first time when the father lifted the veil.
I will have a birdcage veil down to my nose tip but if I'd have a longer veil tben I'd wear it over my face because I like the drama :-)
It’s so great to find that one special person
you want to annoy for the rest of your life....
I just like having something to hide behind - particularly as i'll probably be tearful!

I'm with you on not liking things over my face, and when I tried a veil on while looking at dresses it just looked Right with the veil behind. Go with whatever feels best for you and I'm sure that on the day everyone will be so swept up in the moment they won't even notice how your veil is!

the veil as mentioned was because the groom would not have seen the bride. Another thing is that if you are a virgin, it is meant to be the groom who lifts the veil before the kiss. If you are not it is meant to be you dad when he gives you away...or something like that!

im having a veil aswell & i dont want it over my face! When i told mum & moh i was waiting for a heated discussion about it but mum loves my veil & tiara together that if it was over my face it wouldnt look right.
Just do whatever makes you happy & makes you feel comfortable :-) xx

I wore mine over my face going down the aisle with my dad lifting it back before we started our vows. I will say that it wasn't the easiest thing to walk down the aisle with it over my face as I felt it did obscure my view somewhat, and I was glad I had my dad to hold on to to guide me down lol, but if I had to do it again I probably would still go for veil down :)
Now, finally, Mrs Riley
I hope you don't mind that I put down in words

I am having one as it set off the whole look.... however, it WILL NOT be in front of my face. I want to be able to see everything properly and would be too tempted to play with it as I know it would irritate me if it was in front of my face. Mum was ok with this as I had previously said I didnt even want a veil so at least she got half way there.

I wouldve liked to keep my veil down until the first kiss but i have noticed that the dad tends to lift the veil up before the vows so im not sure which way i will do it yet. I will probably wear it down walking down the aisle as i have a cathedral length veil and it looks nice that way :-)
