    planning on wearing a veil?

I am but OH and I were talking yesterday - should I walk down the aisle with it covering my face or not and if so, who lifts it and when?

Ooh what's the tradition again? Doesn't the father of the bride uncover her face before giving her hand to the groom? I think I'll wear a veil but will depend on what dress I (eventually!) get :)

its tradionally the groom that lifts it, as in arranged marriages, the grooms had never seen the b2b, so it was the great unveiling of the woman they were going to marry.

i am having a veil, but im not having it over my face

I'll be wearing a veil but not over my face. Been in a relationship for that long that I'd feel a little odd being 'unveiled'

aparently brides traditionally wear veils to symbolise there virginity. this is from wiki-

Veils covering the hair and face became a symbolic reference to the virginity of the bride thereafter. Often in modern weddings, the ceremony of removing a face veil after the wedding to present the groom with a virgin bride is skipped, since many couples have already entered into conjugal relations prior to their wedding day – the bride either wears no face veil, or it is lifted before the ceremony begins, but this is not always the case. Further, if a bride is a virgin, she often wears the face veil through the ceremony, and then either her father lifts the veil, presenting the bride to her groom, or the groom lifts the veil to symbolically consummate the marriage, which will later become literal. Brides who are virgins may make use of the veil to symbolize and emphasize their status of purity during their wedding however, and if they do, the lifting of the veil may be ceremonially recognized as the crowning event of the wedding, when the beauty of the bride is finally revealed to the groom and the guests.

i am wearing a veil but dont think i will have it over my face, i do have a child already and dont think to me it wouldnt feel right x

I think veils are appropriate in Church ceremonies but not so in civil.

I love birdcage veils :) I think maybe a full cathedral veil would possibly be a bit much for a civil ceremony, but each to their own I guess :)

i don't think you have to wear a veil if your wedding dress don't need one! traditionly it is better wear one, but now, things changed, you can determine it by yourself!

I am having a veil and i am wearing it over my face but as my two children will be there i don't think anyone is going to be fooled into thinking i'm a virgin lol! I think my dad will be lifting my veil before the ceremony with the help of my moh to smooth it out cos he would be rubbish at arranging it and i would spend the ceremony with a big lump on my head or something! xxx

I have the same dilemma, its more old fashioned and traditional for the veil to be over your face!
In traditional jewish weddings the groom sees the bride before the ceremony and lifts the veil to check that the woman underneath is the RIGHT woman! Goes back to the Bible when one of the men married the wrong woman and didnt know till it was too late cuz she was hidden under the veil...
But then the woman puts the veil back over ready for the ceremony & the groom will lift it back over her face when its time to kiss the bride!

i agree its definitely more symbolic in church or religious ceremonies but not so much in civil and tbh more and more brides are wearing it as an accessory, espec as new head pieces and birdcage veils are becoming more and more popular, rather than for its use so ill probably wear it but not over my face!

Haha zeemee83, im not laughing at you, just love your comment cause its what im thinking about myself! i didnt think id go for strapless as dont like my arms/shoulders/backfat etc but as soon as i tried my dress on with a veil, the way it flowed and covered all me 'bits' was fab! xx

I want to wear a veil, I want it long at the back (to my lower back) and short at the front so it comes to my shoulders. I'll wear it covering my face during the ceremony and keep it in for the rest of the day (we'll see though). When I tried on a wedding dress last week I had a play around with veils with the dress and loved the idea!

Like kisywisy I have a chapel/cathedral length one tier that I'm wearing at the back so won't be going over my face. We're having a civil ceremony, but our venues aisle is huge, about 20 meters long so plenty of room for it. My dress doesn't have a train so the veil is for impact :)
