Hello Mods, I wrote a post on here last night asking people to help me price up a sweet buffet, I can't find it anywhere! I've been through 6 pages and looked on the search ... no joy. Just wondered if it had been removed for some reason?

    Cheers x

What i was trying to do was make the water look misty / milky, if you know what i mean?
I tried it, just messed about with settings and almost got there. Not sure if it didnt work well beacuse the waterfall was small, or wether i hadnt quite got it right. I started off with f4 and iso 100 and just messed about from there, but stupidly didnt write down the settings that worked the best, was too busy trying to control my not-overly friendly chihuahua, my son and the girlfriend lol.

This is the best one i got... i know it looks weird, but i like the overall look, and also one of the bigger (but still small waterfall) (above cos they got posted there and i cant f

h2b says what shutter speed were you using - you need a long one and a sturdy tripod
If its a sunnyish day f4 and iso 100 sound about right (he says)

you need the tripod because the slow shutter speed will blur as you wont be able to hold the camera still long enough. you only want the water blurred and not the rest of the picture.

for smooth silky water you need a shutter speed of about 2 seconds.

1/60th of a second is your heartbeat (your heart beats 60 times a second right?) so anything slower than that really needs a tripod as your heart beat will knock the camera out of focus.

if you photograph water higher than 1/60th, the higher you go, the camera will record it as the eye sees it,in individual droplets and waterspray etc....high shutter speed...equals sharpness....and vice versa......the slower the shutter speed the softer an image will be.

ok, i THINK I have this figured out now,
    put it in M mode,
aperature around f4 (for todays sort of weather)
    Iso 100

and i also just figured out HOW to change the shutter speed :)

That;s the number that says something like 1/600 right? Ao is the higher the second number the slower the shutter speed?

sorry, popped to fetch son....yes the shutter speed is the 1/600 etc,
yes put it in manual mode and set the ISO for the light....today was bright so 200 would be ok.....i use 200 most of the time. the aperture could be f2 if you have the correct lens?

    heres a tip...

set your iso first for the lighting conditions.....today i would have set iso to 200
then set your aperture to 5.6 (this is not a setting for the water, just a tip to get good exposed pictures on manual mode)

then you should have a button or a wheel on your camera that changes the shutter speed.
look inside your viewfinder and you will see the + and - signs.....thats + for darker and - for lighter...

while you are looking through the viewfinder, move the shutter wheel until the needle sets in the absolute middle of the + and - signs...
that is a perfect exposure. the camera aperture and iso have been set by you , according to the lighting conditions, and to get those setting perfectly exposed, the shutter wheel has to be moved to the centre.

you can get loads of different perfect exposures though....

you can set the aperture to F2.8 (if you have the correct lens)
then set the ISO to 100

then you should again move the shutter needle to the middle and thats perfect exposure aswell, it will be lighter, and the background will be blurred, but the exposure will be spot on. if you want it darker than perfect exposure then turn the wheel to + or lighter goes to the - side.

here is a picture i took with a aperture set at f4...ISO of 200 and cant remember shutter speed, but as you can see the small aperture F4 has given the background a lovely blurred look, this is perfect for portraits as it shows the subject better when the background is blurred,.
    446413405_6fb0be63a6.jpg
    446413405_6fb0be63a6.jpg

this picture i wanted the background sharp to get the reflection of the swan so the ISO was 200, and the aperture was f8, and again the shutter speed was set making the needle go in the centre.
    446450952_4e2c57927e.jpg
    446450952_4e2c57927e.jpg

SOMEtimes if the need arises, i like to soften portraits, this is my daughter and i wanted a soft and gentle old fashioned feel to the picture so i set eh ISO to 400, the aperture was f4 and the shutter speed set to slightly towards the + sign to make it slightly darker.....this is called underexposed
    446459915_6fe60af36f.jpg
    446459915_6fe60af36f.jpg

then this little girl was so angelic, i wanted a fairytale kind of look so i OVERexposed this photo by setting the ISO to 100....(letting more light in, the aperture to 5.6....normal sharpness, and the shutter towards the minus (-) side....

I really don't know???? I had asked about sweet tables, but not how to make them etc, someone has asked me to do one for their wedding and I was asking if anyone had priced them up so I could see how much to charge, as most sites will only give quotes if you contact them ... so it wasn't just a same old, same old thread ..... wonder why it's gone?
