I'm really looking forward to Saturday.

Have had a really horrible time recently what with worry about losing my job, losing the house H2B and I were going to buy (gettin gazumped after forking out £300 for surveys) and getting anxious about giving notice ...............so my sister, best mate and I are going for a nice posh afternoon tea on Saturday at 2pm followed by a wedding dress appointment at pronovias on bond street! Soooooooo excited. Have been wanting to try on their dresses since my sister got engaged lol.

Have my eye on a few dresses in there. Georgia in the glamour collection is my favourite, I hope that it looks and feels as good on as the picture appears. I think it may be the only one to rival my current front runner which is Tara by MadelineIssacJames. What does everyone think?

Hoping for a nice fun and happy weekend :D

I love the provonias one!! I have had that one on my likes since before i was engaged! But alas out of my price range! So classy and elegant, after trying a few on though i'd imagine it feels heavy and luxurious! the fabric also looks like no other, real weighty and expensive! Have fun! do you have much time between tea n trying on? Let the scones go down a bit before being corseted up?!

Yep, they're the right ones madhen - thank you for posting the piccies :D

sprucey - appointment is at 4pm, afternoon tea at 2pm, so will have about half hour I reckon for it to go down lol. We'll walk to pronnovias from the hotel we're having afternoon tea at as it's by Green Park so just a 10 mins walk down Bond Street. I can't wait for both. Love the place we're going for afternoon tea, they do it all dairy free for me, loved it the last time I went :D

I do love the look of the pronovias one. The MIJ one is amazing on, when I tried it on I didn't want to take it off. I tried it on without the straps then added a chiffon strip to attach and go across/behind the shoulders so that they're covered for Church. It's stunning on and feels so nice and expensive, especially compared to other dresses I've tried on.

    xx

I love the detail at the front of the bodice of the Pronovias one, but am really liking your description of replacing the straps on the MIJ with chiffon round the shoulders....that might just sway it because it was the straps on the MIJ that made me like it less than the Pronovias.
Sounds like a perfect afternoon, tea and dresses, yay!!

Not sure if we'll be allowed to take pix unless I actually buy it. Will see what I can do.

I am hoping that it or the other dresses I try on there either hit me as OMG so much nicer and feels so much better than the MIJ one or ..................ugh these just don't do it and are not as nice as they look in the picture so I know it's the MIJ dress.

Lol - thanks hun. The MIJ is amazing quality, especially compared to a lot of the other big bridal gown designers dresses I've tried on.

I really am so excited and looking forward to trying on their dresses.

Pronovias do sample sales regularly, they've done two already this year so keep an eye out on their website if the prices blow your budget. I took a peak at one of their sample sales whilst I was passing one Saturday and their dresses were reduced by like 50% or more!

So I had the best day yesterday.

Had a beautiful afternoon with my sister and best mate (MOH/CBM and BM), treated them to a lovely afternoon tea (I surprised them though when I picked up the bill right at the end otherwise they scheme to make sure I can't pay) at the palm court lounge. Then we went for my appointment at Pronovias to try on dresses :D

Tried on 5 dresses .............the Georgia dress picture above and 4 others including one which is very very similar to the MIJ Tara dress pictured above too (called Dorothy).

I tried Georgia first and really liked it, really amazing quality with OMG the longest train I've ever seen lol! It's mega! The fabric is lovly quality but very thick and heavy and with that train it was just too heavy for me and the skirt is a little plain for me as there is nothing going on. It was a lovely dress though.

After two more dresses I tried on Dorothy (2013 collection), it immediately reminded me of the MIJ Tara dress. Same fabric, same positioning of a little bit of sparkle but this one is a little bigger than the MIJ dress, the sweetheart neckline as more pronounced (I prefer the MIJ less pronounced sweetheart) and it doesn't have the fabric from one side to the other but the dress really was very similar.

I then tried one other and that was 5 dresses. I have to say the service in the P'via's bond street store is very good, very nice and friendly helpful sales assistant :D Was refreshing after the last two shops I went to .............almost as good as the boutique in Epping.

I am now slightly torn between MIJ's Tara and Pronovias' Dorothy dress. They are very similar. I am swaying towards the MIJ dress and have already booked another appointment with the Epping boutique to try it on again (and very likely to order it).

So, what now is everyone's opinions?

MIJ's Tara dress vs. Pronovias Dorothy dress?

    Ta

I will remove the straps from Tara ...........and add a chiffon strip that is attached to the sides of the sweetheart neckline and goes behind the shoulders so that my shoulders are loosely covered ............if that helps make people decide.

The Dorothy dress the shop will only add cap sleeves for me which I'm not 100% keen on.

    Does that change any minds?

On the photos the Dorothy seems to fall nicer like as if it doesn't even have an underskirt whereas the MIJ doesn't fall as naturally but to be fair that again could just be great photography!x

Thanks ladies, yeah, I think it is the photo of the MIJ one not doing it justice, I say that because I actually saw it advertised in a wedding mag and totally discounted it as was not keen on the picture but when I put it on I just loved it and didn't want to take it off. However, the Dorothy dress is so similar in style ................there are things that give the MIJ one the edge (including able to customise more to what I think I prefer) and yes I am leaning more towards that one but given the Dorothy dress is also in the running it is good to hear your thoughts.

    Almost.

    Dorothy is £1260
    Tara is £1495

I have a voucher which hopefully I can use though to get 10% off Tara which will then make it £1345.50

But to customise the Tara, the shop will charge me £100 extra.

To customise Dorothy, the shop will charge me £130 - £170 depending on exactly what I wanted but they won't do what I want done on the Tara dress.

For alterations, the boutique for the Tara dress will charge me £160 max. Pronovias charge a standard £180.

Ok one question, why do we need customising? Do you want your shoulders covered? And i have to lean my vote to Dorothy im afraid, there's so much about it that just one look at it and it's an instant love! Will show up more in your wedding photos too i think, as the official photos of the Tara one don't look as great as you describe feeling in it, which means will it look the same in your wedding pics? also looking on the website the dorothy one looks fab from all angles so wherever you are shot from or where people are looking over at you, you'll look stunning all over! not saying you wont look stunning in any dress but just think dorothy holds more

    Anyways i'll stop rambling now..

Yes, I do want my shoulders covered as I've never bee able to go into Church with bare shoulders and I will feel no different on my wedding day so the option is the shiffon strip on Tara or cap sleeves on Dorothy :)

Have you had a look at maybe getting somewhere else to put the chiffon strip on the Dorothy for you if this is the only thing worrying you? Any good seamstress should be able to add one on, and it might actually be cheaper than getting the shop to do it for you? At the end of the day, all we have is pictures of the dresses on the models, you are the one who knows how they feel on you and what they actually look like on you, so it is your decision, go for the one you love the most xxx

thanks Linzi-jo - I could look into it.

At the moment, I think I prefer the neckline on Tara as it's not a pronounced/deep as the sweetheart on Dorothy. Also, Tara's skirt is fuller which I think I prefer and finally, the Tara dress has the extra layer of fabric that falls across the skirt to make the skirt look less plain.

The Tara is a slightly darker shade of ivory from what I can remember (I last tried the dress on in March so trying it again in 3 weeks). It also has I think a slightly bigger train.

I'm pleased at least I have a choice and my taste seems to be consistent rather than being torn between two completely different dresses lol.

    Both are very pretty :D
