I have one adult bridesmaid and one child (H2B's niece). Adult bridesmaid is no problem, there's lots of choice on the high street (budget to stick to so can't really afford bridesmaids dresses from a bridal shop), but I'm struggling to find anything on the high street for the niece.
She's 10 so not small enough for one of the super cute flower girl dresses plus she's at the age that she wants to be grown up. I want her to enjoy being my bridesmaid so want a dress that she likes.
Can anyone suggest anywhere to get a tween bridesmaids dress on the highstreet (or online)? I've tried all the usual places, next, debenhams, house of fraser, etc, etc, etc.
I've found some lovely adult dresses in coast and they do a childrens line but it only goes up to age 8?! Would a 10yo (average height, etc for her age) fit into a small adult size?!
Running out of options so would love some help!
ps our colour scheme is cornflower blue (quite a strong blue not pale)

Have you tried BHS?

yup, tried them.
Don't want a traditional bridesmaids dress, something knee length and floaty/summery. Would prefer a solid colour too.

what colours are you having and i guess it doesn't matter if they are different i went to my sisters wedding last year and got my girls really pretty dress ( they were originally going to be bridesmaids then she changed her mind so i got them extra special dress to help with the disappointment) my eldest was 10 at the time and got her dress of the bay but it was a monsoon dress think i payed about £30 altogether for the dress and the shrug if you look in its the dress in my profile pic i would really look again in next to as i have just had the discount email for the preview of summer lines so that will be out soon.

Hi Krissy905
What shop on the bay did you use?
I was pinning my hopes on next but the only dress in the right colour wasn't really a "special" dress.
it wasnt a shop was something someone else was selling after her wedding i just typed in monsoon dress and looked through what came up.
what colours were you wanting im more then happy to help track some bits down if you want the help my daughters dress is lovely its beaded across the chest with a tie back the other 2 dresses in the pic are both next

I got mine from ebay hun. They were made to measure, i have my daughter who is 10, my neice who is 16 and two adult bms in their 20s. I wanted them all matching so they have the same dresses, but while the older 3 are strapless the dress maker put spagetti straps onto my daughters to make it just that little less grown up.

I am having the same problem as I have a 12 year old bridesmaid. I have picked a few dresses from b h s and mon soon and am waiting to hear back from her about which one she likes if any. xx

Hi Krissy905 thanks so much for your offer of help - my eyes are going boggly just looking! It's quite a strong blue, most places would probably call it colbolt or saphire rather than cornflower blue.
Saw one on the bay which I might get and see if it matches the adult ones at coast in colour then see if niece likes it.

What about high street shops such as Topshop or New Look, that's where she's likely to want to shop anyway, and they may have the style that would suit.
If only life could be one long tea break

OWB, I've already tried all the highstreet shops I can think of, BHS, Debenhams, House of Fraser, Topshop, Miss Selfridge, Next, Dorothy Perkins, Jane Norman, Oasis, Coast, Monsoon, River Island, H&M.......................

I've had a look at the online shops Ziggyboo86, but would like our niece to be able to try seomthing on before I buy anything.

how about getting one made for her cause she's only 10 it may not be that expensive. x

Zoe, I'm having the same issues as you. I have a 10 year old who is an adult size 14-16 and an 8 year old who is a twig. I went to a wedding fair a couple of weeks ago and found a company that make dresses that aren't charging what I would call ridiculous prices. The 10 year old is prob gonna cost me £100 but the 8 year old should come in at half that. It's definately worth looking into.x

what about getting pretty much the same dress in say a 6/8 and then getting it fitted to her then they will match and she will feel grown up. bet if you have a chat with the shop where you got your dress( if you get it froma shop) they would do you a good price
good luck xx

The problem with putting a young girl in an adult sized dress is the way the dresses are made... they would normally have darts in the front for boobs and extra material on the hips for a woman rather than a teenager so she may end up not fitting properly into a adults dress as dosent have the figure unless you get it altered.
Have you thought about putting her in white then accessorcing with the cornflower blue? I have 3 adult bridesmaid and 2 small bridesmaid who will be 9 and 11 and i am putting them both in simple white dresses then accessorcing with a red ribbon round the middle and red flower in their hair with slight heeled shoes and white tights so still special but easier to find xx

I'm having this same problem - nearly all of my bridesmaids are 'tweens' - age 11-15 and they don't suit flower girl dresses but look a bit daft in the adult ones - I'm thinking the best option will be as millz said to put them in white dresses and getting coloured accessories. Good luck and let me know if you find a solution!x
CommentAuthorZoe81
Thanks millz090, white with cornflower blue accessorise is an option. I've got an appointment at a bridal shop on the 10th March so will see how much that will cost. I intend paying for the dresses and will ask them to buy their own accessories, I will be asking for the dresses back afterwards so I can sell them, need to recoup as much money as possible!

I know it sounds a bit cheap but have you tried your local market? I buy cheap one off wear dresses there all the time. They look great usually once, but they dont usually last, but I guess that doesnt matter, the designs are usually a bit different. Maybe worth a try???
