    Hey everyone,
I'm new to the whole wedding planning and organising scene, just got engaged nearly 3weeks ago. Looked at a couple of venues, but struggling to find one that suits what we want. I am 23 and htb is 24. We have a small budget so all this expensive food budgets are knocking us over a bit. We're just after a basic room hire with a bar and we do our own buffet as the costs of £25 pp is a bit too much. Any help into organising wedding things let me know. ANY help would be great! I've already assigned a folder and put labels on each tab and signed up to this site too to try and help things.. I didn't realise there was so much to organise! Luckily we're not marrying until October 2013!!

    Thanks a lot!

Welcome and congratulations. Do you have a budget and where are you from?
We are having a late ceremony then a birthday meal (the word wedding makes prices rocket) which isn't really lying as it is my h2b birthday we get married. Then we are hiring the local pubs function room with karaoke for free.

Firstly you have a good while to plan and get organised. A weekday wedding will be cheaper hun. And there is plenty of things you can do yourself which will help bring costs down. If you can find a venue where you can get other carteres in it would be cheaper even getting another catter in it could be better than the hassle of doign that yourself. All the ladies on here are brilliant with opinons but sometimes you will get opinions you dont want in which case just ignore them. As some times things get heated but it is just opinions at the end of the day which you can ignore.

Congratulations and enjoy everything it will come round quick and you'll be left ondering what you ever did before you started wedding planning x

Congratulations on your engagement! The girls are right, when I joined ukb I didn't know the first thing about wedding planning but now I've got so much done I'm really proud of myself and it's all thanks to the ever helpful ladies on this forum.

As far as advice goes, have you looked at village halls or community centres. True they don't always look like the dream venue externally but you can make them look great inside for a reasonable price and once you're in it's only the smokers who see the outside. You can have photos taken at a beauty spot before heading to the reception and these kind of venues let you get on with your own catering.

There are lots of threads on here about DIY creations and there are some really talented ladies on here who will give you tips and advice along the way.

Good luck with the planning, you'll love it once you get the big bits booked.

    I can't wait until 29/06/2013
The day I marry the man of my dreams!

you've got plenty of time :) i planned my wedding in 8 months :)

its the money and paying for things that gets people more than the actual planning i think. its more stress over paying for things.

like others have said, look into community halls. if you are looking at packages and stuff, £25pp is cheap! We won our wedding but had we had to pay for the food, it would have been £40pp just for the food, then another £12pp for drinks.

depending on your beliefs, a church wedding is pretty expencive. ours cost £550 for the ceremony. Registry offices are cheaper but both of these vary on your location.

Personally, I don't think you can do a 'cheap cheap' wedding these days if you want a little celebration after. I could maybe do it on £3000 for everything. Thats after you take into account the dress, the suits, the rings, photographs etc... but there are ways to save:

photographs/video: depending on how important these are to you. get friends and family to just take pics. most of the ones we got back were better than the 'pro' ones. or ask your local college for media students who want some experience :)

dress: second hand, charity shops, borrow etc

suits: wear what they already have but buy a colour themed tie

rings: you can get rings in argos for around £20, i know some women who have been married over 20 years and still have their 'cheap' argos ring and its perfect still!

catering: do it yourself or family do it.this is one thing i personally wouldn't stress on and would pay for. the night before you want to be relaxing really, not running round setting the food out :)

theres more, but just an example :)

    good luck!
    xx

Thanks everyone! Yeah we're in west midlands, Dudley area :) We've tried a few places already but they want us to pay for a complete package. Yeah we were thinking about £3000 budget. My h2b is going to make the 2 top sponge cakes himself and buy a ready made fruit cake for the bottom tier! Think we're doing a lot of things ourselves but it's mostly the venue for the evening we need haha!
