Me & my husband have decided to start trying for our first baby..
I have been on the depo injection for a year or more now & i was due for an injection in january which i missed..

So my last injection was in october 2012.

I have heard alot of people have struggled to concieve after having the depo & in most cases it takes a year + due to periods taking a long time to become regular again.

I was just wondering if anyone has any tips to help etc?

    Thanks, Heidi

Hi hun, first time I was on depo for 18 months, it took 13 months for my periods to come back. Had a few years break then went back on it after our son was born, was on it for 6 months, it was due Christmas Eve and I have no sign of them coming back but due to other medical issues my doctor want's to give me medication to induce them.

Naturally there's nothing you can do and doctors will only meddle if it's medically needed or been over 12 months.

Either way make sure you're taking your folic acid just incase x

It can take 12-24 months for fertility to return to normal once you come off the injection; usually, but not always, the longer you've been on it the longer it takes to return to normal.

There is no way to speed it up; my advice would simply be to make sure you are fit and healthy (ie are eating well and are a healthy weight, as being overweight affects fertility), are cutting down on alcohol and quitting smoking if necessary, etc, to make sure you have the best chances of getting pregnant.

Also, do remember that though it can take a while for fertility to return to normal, this does not mean you are infertile; it simply means it might take longer than usual to get pregnant.

I dont really have any tips but when I came off the depo I didnt have a period for around 8 month and fell pregnant around then. I also heard it it could take up to a year before getting pregnant and like I say it took me around 8 month !

I know its not advice but maybe it helps knowing that it could take a while xx

    Thanks for your replies.
I have joined a few forums and have recieved lots of tips.
so i have ordered two different lots of tablets which are suppose to help regulate periods (alot of people are taking them who have been on the injection)

I have also ordered some conceive plus & ovulation tests for once my periods are back.

funny you say that, i am fairly over weight so in the mean time im guna get my backside back to the gym :)

so I started taking agnus castus & folic acid, hopeing the ac will help my periods to return FX'd anyway.

I have also gone back to the gym & using my fitness pal to help control my daily calorie intake :)

My periods last months at a time, I tried a variety of contra.pills but they worked for a few months and then my periods just broke through again.. I haven't had a regular period cycle for more then 6 months in 10 years ! They suggested I start the injection and now I just get spotting every couple months but my nurse told me that my periods should return straight away because of how they were before and because of the spotting.. xxx
