    Hi all,
I was hoping to have tree slices and then bird cages on top of the slices but pricing everything I have found that tree slices are expensive

has anyone found a good and cheap place for tree slices? Or had something else under bird cages for a rustic style wedding ?

Could you possibly sound around to see if someone is felling a tree nearby and see if you can have that at a fraction of the price? Just a thought.

That's a good idea. Or even go digging around a nearby wood and practice at home, or is that a no go lol?

Or could you just have either the slices or birdcages? I doubt anyone would notice x

I think just the birdcages look lovely on their own. I think we would have had them if we hadn't already booked candleabra's

If tree slices are a no go, how about just laying out bits of hessian for the bird cages to go on top of? We think we would like bird cages and have thought of scattering pearls and flower petals around the base, and having flower garlands weaving in and out of the bars.

I'm sure you can get cuts of wood fairly cheaply somehow.. do you have anywhere near you that sells like fire wood and stuff? Not sure if it would be cheaper from somewhere like that? x

Just ask a local tree surgeon. I used to work for a tree surgery company and my best mate is a tree surgeon and they are always willing to donate a few slices of wood for customers. Just bear in mind tho that as the wood drys out it can split so either get them close to the wedding or store them somewhere that the air is moist it will also be handy to now what tree you wan the slice to be from as that will determine the look of the bark.

Shame your not closer i could have got you some. Im having tree slices as a cake stand (i think) x

That would be fab if you could hire some for that price! Makes sense to do it that way.. I mean, what are you going to do with tree slices once you are finished with them?! Other than sell them on...

I've just remembered, I think one of my bridesmaid's brother is a tree surgeon. We wanted a tree slice as a cake base and were wondering where we could get one from cheaply. Why did that not pop into my mind before!! x

I keep forgetting we can sell things on afterwards and recoup some of the money back. All the decs can just be sold on again afterwards! x

True :) I did think of keeping one or two of items like bird cage to decorate as reminder of the day but everything else may sell :)

Oooh that's a fab price :) might look and see if I can hire them out from someone around here. Be much easier than getting hold of them yourself and having to varnish them etc etc etc...
