I had a bustle put into mine for the evening as well. It still came out a very tiny bit, but was good.

I'm not a fan of trains on myself so I bought a dress that only had a very short one. The reasons being I found they are just too heavy and can get dirty easily and I'm a bit OCD about that lol.

Someone else mentioned a wrist hook and I think that's also a good idea, its a simple solution. Personally I would have the train chopped off but it seems you really don't want that so yes either bustle or wrist hook.

Im so glad RA decided not to chop! The dress was just too gorgeous to chop and a bustle worked perfect. I have a wrist hook in mine although my train isnt that big so theres no issue for me.

So pleased this thread as been update, thank you RA for the update and pictures.
My dress has quite a long train (for me) and as its quite plain I was going to have it chopped, I dont think I will now though, you've inspired me. Wish I could do it myself though.

GC2B its really easy to make a bustle, if you need me to explain how I did it, I will do, because it can cost you £50+ if a seamstress does it and its SOOOO easy and quick to do.

    OK....
first thing you need to do is measure from waist to floor.....write down that measurement.....
then measure from the floor to the very end of your train.....keep that measurement too..

Turn the dress insideout and either put it on a dressmakers dummy or hang it on a coat hanger.......I have a dummy but found it easier on the hanger because you can see both lengths that way....

It doesnt matter if you are wearing an underskirt or not, because all you are doing is making the back of the dress the same length as the front, and presumaeably you have tried that and its ok, so you dont need to put the underskirt under the dress or anything.

heres a for instance in the case of my own dress, and how I worked it out.

measurements from the waist to floor was 30 inches, and from that measurement from the floor to the end of my train was 30 inches. so that was 60 inches in total/

So I marked from floor UP inside the dress.....30 inches. Because this is how much train needed to pulled up into the skirt......
Also, the exact floor measurement.....where your dress is just touching the floor before going into the train, mark that spot too......

So by now you should have 2 places marked, one at floor level, and one 30inches up inside the skirt.

Some people just use ribbon but I used a large hook and eye AND ribbon, this gave me more hold.

I sewed the hook part onto the 30 inch mark in the skirt, and sewed the eye onto that floor level mark on the train......and then sewed ribbons close to them too. I did the ribbons in a lilac colour so that whoever was helping me could easily find them....you could do any colour......it could even be your something blue?

So when it came to bustling me up, all my daughter did was look for the coloured ribbons, place the hook into the eye and tie the ribbons in a bow.....

I hope I have described it accurately enough for you to understand......Pictures would have been better but I have stored my dress away now... :(

Please tell me if theres anything that sounds a bit complicated....
