Hi Gals, We are doing the traditional Roast Beef for our main, Apple crumble and custard for pud and need a traditional starter... (Have a lot of 'old school' attending, plus us young ones kinda like it too :0) ) However it cannot be FISH, SOUP or FUNGUS (Mushrooms - yuckkky yuck yuck....) Any ideas girlies?? Kxxx

What about prawn cocktail? Or does that count as fish ? lol x
CommentAuthorKarlie1976
lol, fish I would jump at the chance of having something like that, or avocado etc, but Stu hates it with a passion and some of the guests do too. I cant stand fungus.. And to be honest I am not paying £84 a head to have a bowl of soup as a starter, lol! The menu the venue provided is a bit toooo much... So maybe a parma ham, asparagus, poached eggy kinda thing... Liking the pot skins/wedges idea too! In fact liking them all....

Helloooooooooo The catering lady is in LOL
I hear what you're saying about £84 a head for soup. A few of the girls have said cheeseboards, traditionally they are offered as an alternative to dessert OR as a post meal nibble.
Melon is always a good bet, but instead of just galia melon (which is probably what you'll get offered) how about a trio of melon with a raspberry coulis - basically that's galia, honeydew & watermelon with runny raspberry jam
Terrine of duck with a caramalised red onion confit
or for a cute little slant how about mini fish and chips served in a paper cone. I know you weren't keen on the fish idea but it's fish & chips!! *yum yum* :)
hope that helps xxx

But if it had been easy then we wouldn't love each other as
much as we do right now - 1 week to go :D

thanks Kerrylou.. (catering lady :0) )
Its such a pain... they just will not entertain the idea of fish, even though I love it... Melon - I cant do it... thats a dessert to me, lol.. Love the cheese idea but will be too heavy for a starter... I guess mini quiche or something along those lines.... arrghhh... I am spot on with all the other dishes, lol! They are also serving home made fudge with coffee etc after!
mmmm

You're welcome Karlie :)
Mini quiche could be good, if you want something a bit zingy there's goats cheese and red pepper - I don't like goat's cheese but I could eat that all day long :P (yes, I'm strange LOL)
If you like I could go through the new wedding menus of the venues I used to work at and see if I can get a flash of inspiration for you, there's bound to be something somewhere that all your guests will love. xxx
