So H2B and I went to our reception venue on Monday evening after work for our tasting session to choose dishes for our wedding breakfast.
We chose a shortlist of 6 dishes, 2 from each of the 3 courses to try and I was assured that they will all be made dairy free for me to try due to my allergy.
I was so excited and looking forward to the evening with H2B.
Unfortunately, as soon as we sat down and I asked the F&B Manager about the dishes being dairy free (to make sure they were given to us and not another table by mistake) he went to check with the chef who had not made anything especially for us. Therefore, out of 6 dishes I could only try 2, one starter and one main. H2B could try the whole lot.
It was horrible sitting there watching all the other tables of couples getting their dishes to try whilst we sat there with nothing whilst the venue tried to sort out what had happened.
I felt so deflated and disappointed. It also hurt too that they hadn't made the effort to get it right and just feel like it was a wasted trip (it's a good 45 minute drive from where we live on the motorway).
The F&B Manager and venue General Manager were very apologetic and offered us a second tasting session to ensure they get it right for me. They're also now giving us a free night stay at the venue to use whenever we want.
I just feel anxious now that it won't be right and I won't even be able to eat or enjoy my own wedding breakfast.
We're forced to choose all the dishes for our wedding breakfast without me trying everything due to needing to get the invitations out this weekend with the menu choices.
It's not supposed to be this way.
I cried so much last night.
Sorry for the moan, just feel so deflated over this.
xx

Awww hun, would like to swear on your behalf the di**heads!
But it will be ok, they will be so scared of messing up now everything will be absolutely perfect!! Least h2b got to try everything and he can take the blame if its not right (I kid, I kid!).. But don't worry too much about it hun, it's not worth getting worked up over when it will be sorted ready for the big day!!
Chin up and have a nice hot bath xxx

Tbh the fact that they got it so wrong ,will mean that they will make all the effort to make sure your next tasting is spot on
Oh no!! Carla is right though - hopefully the fact they messed up your tasting means the food on the actual day will be fantastic! I'm sorry it upset you and you are right to be miffed about it!! But fingers crossed for the next time and the real deal!!
Keep your chin up!

Aw honey thats very unorganised of them.... however hopefully because they have got it wrong now they will know not too on your day so dont stress. Maybe give them a call a week before to double check everything so peace of mind.
Good news on the free night xxx
Finally marrying the love of my life !!
10th August 2013 - 9 years to the day we met !
Yes, I think they have already started to try and make the effort when the General Manager got involved and took notes of what I can have etc and offering the free night there and a second free tasting session when it should only be one per couple.
Fingers crossed they can get it right now and that it was just an unlucky breakdown in communication or something as they have had other weddings where the bride/groom have had allergies.

Thanks hun.
H2B sure does benefit from my allergy.
Last time we ate dinner in a very nice hotel restaurant in Trafalgar Square before a night at the comedy club, they assured me the soup was totally dairy free and vegan, big mistake, the chef put a lump of butter in it apparently but only worked it out when half way through my main I ended up making a dash for the ladies (will not give you the details), after a little while, I came out, felt so hot and flushed and my heart was racing. I asked them again if there was anything in the soup and they then said there was butter. We got a free night in a suite at the hotel (very nice hotel too) and they gave us two free top price tickets to a west end show of our choice.
It almost happened at the venue too. The F&B manager at first said that the two main courses were fine and dairy free. When they were brought out I asked was the pork wellington pastry was made out of ....................he went to double check came back and said that I was right to check as it did actually have butter in it! Close one! I really didn't fancy feeling ill again, especially by my wedding menu tasting session but to think if I'd just taken his word for it the first time they'd have made me ill!

They've definitely listened now. Yesterday morning I got an e-mail from the wedding coordinator apologising after the General Manager had filled her in on the issue.
I just hope the second tasting goes well and my faith in them is restored. At least they're trying to redeem themselves. x

What a nightmare, but I agree with the other ladies, they will be tripping over themselves to ensure everything goes as should. last thing any hotel, restaurant, etc what is bad feed back, its that tell a friend who tells 10 friends. Everything will be fine, but make sure you speak to your wedding co- ordinator tell her how it made you feel. xxxx
CommentAuthorInDreamland
Thanks ladies.
I've been e-mailing the Wedding Co-Ordinator the past couple of days and she knows how I feel and we have a second tasting session in the diary now and I've made it clear what I want to try and what I cannot eat. Fingers crossed now I can have my faith in them restored. xxx

Mistakes happen, unfortunately to you on this occasion :( It's really rubbish that something that you were looking forward to made you upset and question the venue and their organisation skills!! I agree with all the others in that they will be on high alert for your day to make sure nothing else goes wrong. It sounds like they are really trying hard to make it up to you, great sign!!!! Hope your second tasting is wonderful, let us know :) I have noticed that my control freak ocd nature has become so much worse in the last few months leading to our civil partnership lol, because I want the day to be PERFECT, we have been so organised. I have a million back up plans, but I have come to terms with the fact that the day may not go perfectly. I can either murder someone, stress about it and ruin the day, or accept it and make the best of it......Deep breaths, even if my Dad's uninvited, drunk girlfriend turns up, just smile.....and give my Best man the nod to bundle her out ;)
CommentAuthorInDreamland
Thanks Girl-groom. I'm the same, I'm a total OCD control freak and hate not feeling in control. There are so many things I've been so relaxed about but being served food I'm allergic to isn't one of them ..............can you imagine me disappearing off to the bedroom and taking up residence in the bathroom for the whole reception! They do seem to be making an effort now to make good what was such an upset so will let you know how it goes. Can you come and fix the things I'm being unorganised with please? Like giving my H2B a kick up the wotsits so he sorts his suit fittings out with the guys ;)

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one with a bit of OCD and control freak going on! I'm sure that the everyone is right and they're going to be falling over backwards trying to make everything perfect for you. I hope you're tasting goes well, and your faith is restored! Have you tried setting deadlines for your H2B? That's what I've done with mine, and just every now and then maybe once a week I casually bring it up or ask how its going, and compare it to my list and deadlines so he can see how hard we are both working on it :) He's been pretty laid back but now the deadlines are slowly creeping up on him he's taken a day or two off to get it sorted out, because he knows that that deadline is coming up, and how hard I've been working on my list. He doesn't want to break the deadline, hehehee. And I'm organising an awesome birthday party as a thank you for all the hard work he's put in too, which seems to be an added incentive! Very hard not to be constantly asking him if he's actually going to do anything on the list when I know he keeps forgetting, but I'm glad he's finally sorting it all! Maybe that'll work for you too xx
CommentAuthorInDreamland
Awww that's so sweet. Lol I have given him deadlines for both the suits and addresses for invitations and he's messed up on both. It's hard at the moment as we're renovating our house (not living there whilst it's being done as the entire site is a building site) so he has been running around with that a lot but I'm also involved with it as well as doing the wedding and we both have full time jobs which are extremely busy. I think he puts his feet up more than me though as I do all the house work etc too.
Oh well, just hope this tasting session goes well on the 12th as it will help put my mind at ease with the food situation. xxx

What about the in laws? Do you get on well enough with any of them to get them to do a bit of chasing on your behalf? My MIL can be a pain in the butt but she can be very useful when I need my H2B to do something (normally actually go to the Drs lol) but maybe they can help out with the persuading him to get a shift on?
CommentAuthorInDreamland
No. H2B's mother passed away so I never knew her. Not close to his sister enough to talk about this kinda thing and not really right to moan to his dad. If I have to I'll just give H2B a kick xxx

It's fine, they have a deadline of 30th March to RSVP and it's only beginning of Feb now so they will have plenty of time. I think 7 to 8 weeks is time enough for them to respond.
