Firstly, should point out that if I get my way I won't have a top table, hate them! Would far rather just another normal round table that happens to have a bride and groon on it...
Anyway, can you all tell me what the done thing is with the seating at the top table? My problem is that neither or my parents is particularly fond (to put it mildly) of H2b's father. I'm panicking already about how we're going to work it out, as I think from most weddings I've been to the bride's mum sits beside the groom's dad and vice versa? Also can't just keep the couples together as H2b's parents are divorced... Can I just pop a bridesmaid or groomsman in between them or something?! Or should I just do what's normally done and rely on them to just get on with each other for the sake of one dinner...?

Its your big day, If you want a bridesmaid inbetween you do it hun. You dont want to make anyone uncomfortable and even more so no arguments. Its your big day and you want it to go as calmly and perfect as possible. If you dont want a head table dont have one again its yours and your G2B decision. Hope you manage to work it out hun xx

I think we're just havign a normal round table like everyone else but there will be me, h2b, my son, my mum and step dad and the inlaws. Thankfully they all get on very well. My actual dad on the other hand will not be there as I wont be inviting him. My awkwardness comes from not inviting any of the rest of his side of the family though. at one point it was just going to be me, h2b and son with parents hosting their own tables x

WHY NOT HAVE EACH SET OF PARENT HOST THIER OWN TABLE ... WE ARENT HAVING A "TOP TABLE" EITHER WE ARE HAVING THE SAME ROUND TABLE AS EVERYONE ELSE WITH US BM`S AND THE PEOPLE THAT COME TO AMERICA WITH US ON IT
Its your day have what ever makes you happy a lot of people now have the parents host their own table you and h2b could have a sweetheart table for just you two to sit on anything goes with weddings these days do what you want hun x
My parents are divorced but I'm still doing the same as Kelly.....
Best man, H2Bs parents, H2B, me, my parents, MOH
My parents made their bed 26 years ago when they had me.... They can lie in it now lol. Divorced or not!!
Surely your H2B's parents can be civil for an hour or so through your wedding breakfast xxx

My parents are sitting at my side and h2b will have his parents at his side. I want to sit next to my Dad on my big day not h2b's Dad.

I knows theres "wedding soubriquet" but in all honest I am a firm believer that its your special day and you should do as you see fit. Mybe have your family on one side of the table and OH's family on the other side? I had hell with mine also due to having step parents and wondering where to put them. In the end I sorted it and have now got 11 guests on there!!
Hope you get it sorted :) xx

i'm having my gran and h2b gran at teh top table - could you do this and sit grandparents between the people who don't get on?x
CommentAuthorDelirium
To avoid all complications maybe just have you, OH, best man and maid of honour? That way you should (hopefully!) avoid all parent-related awkwardness xx
CommentAuthorhello-kitty
yep delirium thts what im doing. as my mum died last year and i dont particularly like my dad i am only having best men and bridesmaids on top table. everyone else will be on normal tables. it's so much easier that way

Didn't have a top table! me and hubby sat on our own at the front, and our parents headed long tables made up of our families. I wasn't going for traditional at all at my wedding .... in fact the opposite! who needs the stress? x
