So we've provisionally set the date for the 24th of April 2015, just need to confirm with church and off to see the venue on Saturday. But I have been itching to go window dress shopping.

There's one particular dress that has caught my eye and I am desperate to try it on. It's the Mori Lee 1862.

I am worried that once I try it on I'll love it and want it and then worried that if I get it, nearer to the time I'll find another one that I love and will want to change my mind. I wouldn't order until next year but is it too soon to start looking?

I've been looking for a while now! Getting married july 2015 and it gives you an idea of what you want and if you want to lose weight gives you a boost as you can see your reason why you want to loose it!

I went looking 18 months before (so last February) originally just to find out what did and didn't suit me as what you have in your head or like on a hanger or mannequin doesn't always look right on you. But while I was there I found my dress and went back the next day to try it again and put down the deposit and ordered it then and there. Since doing that I have not seen one dress where I think 'oh thats nicer than mine, maybe I should get a different one'. I think when you know it is 'your' dress you just know and it doesn't change no matter how long you have to wait to be able to wear it! xxx

I've just got back from the shop and although I didn't try it on, I've seen it and I 100% know that it's there. It's beautiful and I'm going to go and try it on in November!! I have tried 1 on at a wedding fair and loved it but it was well out of my budget but this one is very similar and £1000 less! So I know I definitely want a fishtail shape because I think a big dress would make me look shorter and I can't wear massive heels because h2b is only an inch taller than me!!! X

I was debating this one too - especially as, until I've picked my dress I don't really know what exactly I want the bridesmaids in. So the comments above have helped ... think I might go sooner than I intended to! :-) I've already bought my shoes though - my H2B is the same height as me so I wanted some pretty ballet pumps so I wouldn't tower over him. Found some fabulous ones in the sale that are covered in iridescent sequins and oh so pretty. I've no idea if they'll go with the dress I end up buying but they were such a bargain I couldn't say no!

Good luck with finding 'the one'!

i too have been worried that it was too soon for looking at dresses - i have been worried that the dress shops would not make much of an effort with me as wedding not until may 2015. Also for the ladies who have been dress shopping how does it work? Is it like the movies you go in and keep going in and out the dressing room trying on different dresses whilst friends and family sit and wait for you to come out whilst sipping champagne? (i'm sure they don't supply this but would be nice).

Also any brides2B in the devon area can recommend good bridal shops? Feel a bit intimidated by it all x

I personally started looking 14 months before the wedding because my sister was desperate to start looking, I was going to start 10 to 12 months before but she insisted. It was similar to the movies lol, my mum sister and best mate sat in the shop or big dressing area whilst I came in and out of the dressing room with different dresses on.

Everyone is different, some brides leave it until 6 months before, others get their dress 3 years before the big day. There is no harm in looking now xxx

Someone I know was looking for 6 months before she found the one. Often ladies actually end up not liking what they thought they'd want so take longer to find the perfect dress. So looking now may be a good idea, you're only 2 months off getting married in 18 months, if it does take you a while to find the one then you'll be pleased you started looking now.

I've had the same Christina, we went into the shop and one of the ladies was really helpful, another one came out of the back and said, when's the wedding, I told her and she went, oh you're a bit early, come back in February. Because I'm young as well, I don't think people take me seriously sometimes!!

Laura, I don't think it's too early to go looking. I got mine this month (13 months before the wedding) but a few of the boutiques I went to told me I was leaving it a little late so never too early!

I have paid my deposit and I get measured in October for my dress to be ordered. I'm told it will arrive in April and then I'll have my first dress fitting a little while after.

I think looking now gives you more options as you won't feel rushed to make a purchase.

Enjoy every second of trying dresses on! Xx

I started looking around last August to get ideas of what I wanted and then I was going to get it made online at a cheaper price. I picked up a few styles and one that the lady in the shop said may not flatter me because I'm a pear shape and there is a band that sits on the hips. Even my family said I wouldn't like it cause it was too fussy on the bodice. Well it was the one. Ordered it there and then. And now a year later it's all paid for. Just have to go in Jan to have my measurements done.
My mum, grandma and one of my bridesmaids came and sat and had a drink of tea. When I said I'd buy it we got some champagne. Think I tried 4 or 5 on.

Yeah the shop it's in, the only one that's local to me, do a payment plan over 10 months! So it spreads it and breaks it down a bit, which better than £1000 all in one go. I already know what style I want or think I want lol xx

I bought and found mine last October (2012) and dont get married until next August. I had originally started looking in July 2012 with my bridesmaids and picked a lacy A A dress but then I drove past a local bridal shop where the dresses are handmade and it was in the window sparkling away and I knew I had to try it on. I went alone to try it on and some colleagues walked past the window and saw me , I fell in love with it and got my parents to take a look and that was that, as if it was fate.

Hey, I bought my dress 2 weeks after getting engaged and we don't tie the knot for 2 years yet but I saw it in the sale online in a shop 10 mins from my house so went alone on a whim, tried it on,it fitted perfectly and I just knew it was "the one"

Must admit it was the total opposite of what I thought I wanted in a dress but it was just perfect for me.
Took my step mum the next day, she cried when I tried it bk on and chose a gorgeous veil to match it and we bought it there and then.

She did make me try 2 other dresses on but they didn't come close.

My theory in life is it it feels right just go for it!!!

    Happy Wedding Dress Shopping!!!xxx

I would start looking soon Clairenina because most shops recommend ordering your dress between 6 and 9 months before the date in order to get it in and have fittings and any alterations done in time for the wedding day. If you are planning to lose weight then you could always order it a size smaller or get it taken in. I ordered my dress in February and it still isn't the shop yet (so that was 8 months ago now!) xxx

I got my dress early on. I had not even seen it in the shop or tried it on. Saw it on the net, fell in love, ordered it and loved it when it came. Yes I did have times where I would see another dress and I would think did I chose too early? I would then look at a picture of mine again and I would think nope I never. When it came and I tried it on I fell in love even more.

I'm getting married July 2015 and I chose and started paying for my dress three weeks ago!!! I went 'window shopping' with my mum, tried on a few gorgeous dresses with no thoughts of buying one AT ALL, but they say that when you have the right one on, you know it, and you just have to go for! I absolutely love my dress and I hate that I'm not gonna get to try it on now until 3 weeks before my wedding day. I would say, sure go and try on dresses, there's no reason why not! But also be prepared to fall in love with that one dress because you never know :) oh and also the shop I bought mine in happened to have a 20% sale on the day I went, so there was no question about buying it!! :) x

I get married end of March 2015 and was planning on going alone to a discount shop just to try on styles beginning of April then go proper dress shopping with my mum and best friend beginning of May. I just know that I'll be better alone trying on styles as i'm not very confident about my size and shape so when i go with people, it'll be nice to know I'm in the right direction.
I was going to book at 2 boutiques on the same day, one morning and one afternoon then take it from there. That'll be 10 months prior to my wedding

Clairenina, if you are concerned about the prices it might be worth hitting the bridal shops when the sales are on, as you can get some amazing dresses and a fraction of the cost. My mum did this for her second wedding, she got a £650 wedding dress for £170.
