Hi Is anyone having a toastmaster? Do you think its important? We have been quoted £375 which I think is extortionate....I mean its only a couple hours work? Is there any reason a guest cant do it?! thanks :-)

Our Wedding venue coordinator who also happens to be the owner says hes happy to do it for free. its only basically announcing the entrance of the B&G and then introducing the best man for the 1st speech, etc then cake cutting and 1st dance.

We have it included in the price, if not I'd get a family member to do it. X
I think we have it included in the price, but if we don't I'll ask one of my fiancé's brothers to do it.... possibly both of them, they could be a double act.
CommentAuthorMel D
We had my sister's husband do it for us. We gave jobs to the husbands of the bridesmaids. £375 does sound like a lot for not much!

Our wedding coordinator is doing our toasts and announcing etc for free
CommentAuthorInDreamland
We didn't have one and my sister didn't have one at hers either. Our wedding planners/Event's Coordinator's on the day did all the announcements that were required.
They are expensive so unless they're included in your venue package I wouldn't bother. The Event's Manager should do what is required to ensure everything runs smoothly and make the necessary announcements. Others have one of the ushers do this.

We were wondering about this as I read in a magazine that it's the Best Man's job if you don't have a toast master. H2B's Best Man is quite shy, so we're going to ask one of the Ushers or Dads to do it if James doesn't want to. £375 does sound like quite a lot of money :o/

I think its defo nice to have someone do it....makes everything seem more grand :) We're having my dads friend who is coming to the wedding with his wife do it. He's even got the outfit lol! But he will change his suit jacket by the evening to make him feel more comfortable :) xx
CommentAuthorLauraK7
I don't want one it's a bit to formal for me but someone at a wedding fair forced a quote of £190 on us to give you a comparison x

I go to lots of weddings because I work as a photographers assistant. In my experience, in the right venue, such as a mnarquee, stately home or nice hotel, Toastmasters can be just the right thing. But you need to find a good one - not one who's just started - and often the Toastmaster promised by the hotel is jus a Duty Manager who is more interested in making sure the meal is ready and is not ecperienced at making announcements.

the Toastmasters will round up guests politely so that we can get them done as quickly as possible and they really make the whole day flow well - friends who are not used to dealing with weddings are usually not a good choice.

Were having our reception in a restaurant/cocktail bar. The guess will need to be seated spread over 3 rooms - we're fine with this but our wedding coordinator did suggest a toastmaster would make things grander (its a Georgian style manor house) - though £375 is almost 70% of our flower budget so cant see it happening. Other than introduce the bride and groom anf speeches - what do they do? :-)
thanks Lisa

Like some of the others mine is included with our package otherwise I wouldn't be that bothered. I only know that they introduce you and pretty much just make a few announcements as far as I'm aware. I don't think I could justify paying £375 for one. I would definitely go with having a family member or close friend. X

Ours is included within our package which will be someone from management but that suits me as we aren't having a grand affair and going for a more laid back wedding. But I could never justify spenidng that much on having some introduce us and gather people for the meal
CommentAuthorclairenina
I got a few quotes, and we even have a fairly reasonable one for £220, but to be honest, it's alot of money to spend, for not much work on their part. We are just sticking to our venues toastmaster that's included.

We are going to have my male best friend as toast master, he's one of my bridesmaids technically but I wanted to give him something special to do and a reading didn't feel right. He's going to introduce us and speeches, he's a natural at taking charge of a room too so that helps! lol! (plus he's doing it for free!)

Blimey! I'm clearly in the wrong job!
We used our wedding coordinator and she was great! Sometimes the DJ (if you're having one) will announce cutting of cake and first dance etc at the evening do.
CommentAuthorLizM28
According to a website they do the following - they usually do a lot more than the Hotel manager:
Takes away the responsibilities of running the day.
Oversees arrival of guests, organises a receiving line and announces them.
Advises on top table seating and other matters of protocol, e.g. who says Grace and whether a receiving line is needed
Someone to control the events and avoid any pitfalls.
Takes care of receipt of gifts.
Makes arrangements for the entrance of the Bride & Groom (or President of the event).
Announces or says Grace.
Supports and liaises with Banqueting Managers and caterers to ensure smooth catering arrangements
Takes charge of cake cutting and wine taking. Introduces speakers and presentations
Ensures entertainers run to schedule.
Recognises the role of the photographer.
Supervises and announces the departure of the Bride & Groom or closing of the event.
CommentAuthorJanineS11
The banqueting manager at our venue (Great Fosters) said he'd do the announcments for us. You should try going down that route :-) xx
