    Hi girls

How many of you are having a tasting to choose your wedding breakfast?

We know what we want - warm goats cheese and tomato tart, roast beef and yorkie pud (although I am terrible at getting gravy everywhere so fearing for my dress with this one!) and profiteroles with amoretti, chocolate and cream but there are a few other menu options I would consider.

The hotel has a good reputation for food, however that is in the restaurants and I appreciate that its different when catering for a large group (although is the same chef and kitchen)

I'm just not sure whether to have a tasting at £25 per head or not...

I went to a wedding recently where the portions for the starter and dessert were microscopic, and the bride said that if she'd had a tasting she probably wouldn't have picked those options. Really, the starter was more like a canapé!

But I just don't know if it's worth paying fifty quid for the tasting. Are you/have you had a tasting? What are your thoughts? Xx

We are having a taster but it's thrown in with the package. I think it is a bit cheeky to ask you to pay to taste. How much food do you get for that money? If you get to try a bit it would be worth it. It really is up to you, if I had to pay I probably woulnt. Depends on your budget I suppose x x

We are having our taster next week, but this was also included in the package. I think it's a nice to get an idea of what to expect, however, with the cost of weddings as they are it's really a case of can you afford that extra £50. If you really want to try why not ask for money towards it as a present for christmas x

How cheeky of your venue! Our tasting is included in the price of venue so we will definitely be making the most of it! £25 is a lot per head as well, but then when I've seen people do them before you do get a good amount of food! Its up to you and H2B really. if you are certain that's what you want then there is not much need. Have you eaten in there before? xx

Yeah I thought it was a bit cheeky too, they do them free as part of a package but we aren't having a package. I might have a word and see if they can either get me a photo of how it would be presented or give me a freebie. I havent eaten there before but the menu prices are quite dear so if I was going to taste I would be better off going for the twenty five quid option anyway xx

I think it's swings and roundabouts, as my dad would say.

On the one hand, it could be useful if you were undecided between a couple of items, as you might find you prefer one to another. It could also help identify issues with things like over/underseasoning, red meat being over/undercooked, etc, and so you can iron these things out before the day.

On the other hand, if you've already ruled out other options for whatever reason (eg majority of your guests won't eat a certain thing), the tasting will only benefit you in the latter way (checking it's prepared and cooked to your tastes and requests). Even then, I personally thinking cooking for 2 people is vastly different to cooking for 50; and I do wonder just how useful a tasting is, as the food will be prepared differently, as it isn't mass-catered. Point being, it could be fab on the tasting, and then disappointing on the day (not saying it will be of course)

Like you, we have to pay for a tasting, and I'm undecided, for the reasons I've given above. I'm just not convinced it will be massively useful to us.

You should see can you get a free tasting! Can't believe they're making you pay for it - all the packages we looked at offer free tastings once the deposit's paid, more than one if necessary! And OK, you're not getting a package, but you're still giving their hotel a lot of business, least they should do is just £25 for the tasting, not per head!

That's cheeky, 25 quid! Seriously? I'd look for a discount. But with it or without it I would do some kind of tasting. You could always just share the plate.

We'd have to pay for our tasting as well so we're trusting our venue, it has a great reputation for food and our menu choice is our favourite food hopefully it'll all be fine! And you're menu choice sounds AMAZING yum x x

Our venue doesnt do a tasting of the food for the wedding breakfast but they do let you have a 3 course meal in there restaurant to sample there food and that is free which is pretty good cos its quite an expensive place. i would ask if you can have a free taster as you will be already spending a fortune when booking the wedding with them. x

We're having a tasting session. It's free for the bride and groom and we can take up to 4 more people but they're chargeable. In with this, we also get to have a wine tasting session :) I think it depends on venues. We're paying £110 per head...I would go CRAZY if they said we'd have to pay for our taster!
Starbabe78-I think this is really nice of your venue.
