I have pale skin and dark hair and i dont like how it looks at the best of times, never mind how washed out I'll be with a white dress on!
Should I try and tan and run the risk of lookin too 'overdone' and unnatural or should I just do what I always do and just bronze myself (although it never shows well enough in pictures) or should I not take any risk and go for the pale Mortisha look!? (the 3rd option is not a favourite lol)

hmmmmm I'd say the bronzed look. I'm not sure about the tan, I always think natural looks better but if you don't want to be too pale I'd stick the bronzer on :0)

this will probably get frowned upon and I promise I don't usually do it but I'm gonna go for a couple of blasts on a sunbed - just for this and never again - only cos I want to have a nice colour but too much could go wrong with a spray tan! And I look better with a tan lol x

Speaking as a Photographer, I would suggest looking at your partner, and trying to stay similar to them re skin tones.
Much harder to match colours when one partner is pasty white and the other is bright orange!

what about if you are different skin colors to start with? I'm going to go and have a couple of sunbed sessions. I think I look so much better with a tan and don't want to risk anything coming off on my dress. I've never done it before, and I won't again, but for a special occasion it's ok?

I would say get an ivory dress not a white dress as they don't look so harsh on you. I'm pale but the dress looks fine on me. I wouldn't go on a sunbed again. I never used to tan at all even when I went abroad to hot countries. I went on a sunbed a couple of times and now I do tan in the sun. You may think that this is a good thing but it is just a sign that I have now damaged my skin :0(

Personally I'm not a big fan of sun beds or fake tan so I would just learn to love the way you are.

I would get my skin bronzed slightly. I am pale but a redhead and I don't suit being tanned, lol, but I am ok in that my dress isn't white and it actually suits my skin tone. But after watching Gypsy Wedding last night, I would advise if you are wearing a proper white dress then it can wash you out when you are pale and dark haired. Either way you will look fabulous though! :)

i would say do the same as you always do if you want want a sunbed.

when i go on holiday i burn so now i go on the sunbed couple of times a week for about 3 weeks and then i dont burn. if you start on something like 3 mins and slowly work your way up and use the cream you wont burn. i havnt and as i said i burn very easily.

the other advantage of this is you are already tanned when u get in your bikini on honeymoon and it will help you tan more and you wont burn when you are away.

    xx

My friend had a spray tan done before her wedding and this had put me off. Although she looked lovely...her dress didnt. orange streaks going down either side of her dress where her arms were resting and brushing the dress all day!!!NONT a good look, so i'll be doing the same, just maybe going for a couple of short tanning sessions, as i'm very pale, to get a bit of a glow

I am getting a light spray tan, just to take the edge off. I had a spay tan for my sisters wedding (i was bridesmaid wearing lemon) and I did look abit odd one out coz i was really brown. So i dont want one that dark. My plan is to have a spray tan done for my friends wedding and see what it looks light with a paler tan. I defo want something tho.x

I think Im going au naturel. and ive got dark hair and fair skin!

As long as its not a cold day - because if im cold i am in danger of turning a wierd purple/blue colour!!!

hopefully the adrenalin pumping in me will stop that from happening though!!

If you're worried about the tan going wrong go for test runs before the wedding well in advance!! try it out - and if you get an experience like Ross in friends then at least you have time for it to wear off before the day.

if you go bronze careful it doesnt stain the dress!! eeeek!

    R xx

Oh no! Worried mine and h2b's skin is going to clash as now we've put the wedding back to October - we'll only just be back from 4 months in Spain! Last year when we got back, h2b was tanned and I was pale as milk like always, everyone commented that I didn't look like I'd even left the country. Admittedly, I didn't spend much time in the sun last year for a few reasons, mostly because I actually like my fair skin and auburn-ish hair, I've always been pale and learned how to work with it make-up wise etc and there's a history of cancer in my family so I've always worried about burning.. I always burn long before I get anywhere near tan!
Don't really do fake-tan, it never works on my skin and I don't want to get it all over my dress etc! And I'm naturally quite wary of sunbeds, so many horror stories! Eeeeek!

now this may shock some people but i will tell you anyway.
i have heard horror stories about sunbeds and all the damage they do to your skin about cancer and everything but here goes

my mum has had breast cancer 3 times and cervical cancer last year, she was very ill and at one point i wondered if she was going to pull through. my nan has has a cancer lump taken out from her nose. my grandad was full of cancer and died to it and my grandma had breast cancer and had a breast removed!

now when my mum first got told she had cancer she was very young to have it. this was about 15 years ago but was told that everyone has the cancer gene in their body. some people are unlucky and it comes alive others are lucky and it stays asleep!

i however do use sunbeds which is what i think may shock some people. the reason being is that because the number of close relations to have cancer if i am going to get cancer then there is nothing i can do about it and i am going to do the things that make me feel better like sunbeds and lying out in the sun when on holiday.x

Thats really sad Mrs baker to be.

But what does your H2B think? i know that my h2b wouldnt even let me be out in the sun if it meant reducing my life by just one day.

If he is happy for you to live life to the full like you do then thats cool. And its a terrible thing to have to live with knowing what could be round the corner and I admire your attitude.
do you have kids though!? because it would be a shame for your H2B and (future) kids miss out on having you around should the worst happen (and i really really hope it doesnt!!!!)

    no we dont have kids.

h2b isnt keen on me using them. i only go on for 3 weeks of the year before i go on holiday to build a base tan.
Sometimes i let it worry me when my mum was ill but i just get on with it. me and my sisters will have to be regulary tested for breast cancer and cervical cancer more than most as the history. it is also part the reason why i cant use the combined pill xx

thats really sad and Im really sorry, anyone who has to go through that with their family and have the risk of having it themselves is a very brave person!!!

i have had a scare in the past - but go for regular check ups and am not really worried about it any more, but of course when i first got the scare i was shocked and everything was a blur. i had a small operation over a year ago now and have been fine ever since.
But we dont have a family history so im hoping that i'll be ok.

I cant imagine what it feels like for you - but to be honest if you do it 3 weeks before holiday and not every week then thats ok i think as you say you gotta enjoy yourself sometimes, and if we never did something we shouldnt really then life would be very dull!

exactly...i would never go on them all the time. i use them about 10 times a year for abour 7 mins a time but is nothing compared to some people!

at least yours was just a scare and everything was ok!

It is scary but there is nothing that i can do about it so just try and forget about it. i just make sure that i check myself because the earlier you catch something the better
